Fire Protection Districts’ Tax Increases

A Friend of McHenry County Blog calculated how much local tax districts have increased or decreased their tax levies for the last year and the last ten years.

Today we look at Fire Protection Districts:

Fire Protection/Rescue Districts are favored taxing bodies.

Referendums to increase tax rates have been passed in Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Marengo, Wonder Lake and Woodstock.

Woodstock’s Chief Michael Hill explaines, “A referendum for a 20% levy increase was passed last year. This is the first year that the increase takes effect.”

The Village of Fox Lake consolidated its Fire Protection Department into the Fire Protection District, explaining the large tax levy increase.

The Crystal Lake Fire Department is part of city government and not shown separately.

No Fire Protection District decreased the amount to be extracted from bank accounts.

  1. You can’t tell me a lot of waste can be cut from those figures. 20-30% in the larger dists.
