A Story from our Center
Jan was distraught upon learning that her 16-year-old daughter, Emily, was pregnant.
Although Jan hasn’t directly said she wants Emily to abort, she has said, “Your life will be ruined” and “You don’t even drive yet”
She was angry about how the now ex-boyfriend had treated her daughter for the past 2 years and does not want her daughter to be forever tied to him through a baby.
Per normal procedure, IC staff met with Emily alone and learned that she fully intended to carry this baby.
She went on to share that she is aware of the fact that a baby was made when it shouldn’t have been and that she is ready to deal with the consequences.
She said a baby should not have to die because of her mistakes.
Emily also shared that she had family friends that are fully in support of her decision to carry, and that they would be a place where she could find the help she needs to do this.
Despite Emily saying she has a very close relationship with her mother, the two of them had not yet actually talked about the situation.
A visit to IC provided them the support, encouragement and direction they needed to have this difficult conversation.
When we asked if either of them believes in God, Jan said “I do”.
We encouraged her ask God to help with this situation; to let the anger go, let the disappointment go, let the fear go, and give everything to God, trusting that He will provide the answers.
We prayed for both of them, then they hugged and said that they loved each other.
Although we did not see an immediate change of heart from Jan, we are grateful that through your support, IC could be a safe place where this mother and daughter could come to learn about their options, process the situation, and most of all share how each one of them feels.
