Algonquin Township Audit Comments on Lawsuits

The outside audit for Algonquin Township will be considered tonight.

Here is what is said about lawsuits:

The Algonquin Road District is named in lawsuits between township officials and Local 150 International Union of Operating Engineers for unfair labor practices, arbitration provisions, and the existence of a labor agreement.

In the aggregate, these claims seek monetary damages in
significant amounts.

To the extent the outcome of such litigation has been determined to result in probable loss/litigation costs to the Township Road District, such loss has been accrued in the accompanying financial statements.

Currently the estimate of loss or damages has resulted in a reserve accrual in the amount of $100,000.

Other litigation where loss to the Township is reasonably possible has not been accrued; however, the Township management is vigorously defending against all such claims and an estimate of such loss, if any, is not possible.

The outcome of the remaining claims cannot be determined at this time.

Other information about legal expenses gleaned from the Audit follows:

  • Town Fund – $258,572
  • Township Clerk – $79,482
  • Road and Bridge Fund – $213,031

  1. What’s the total of legal expenses since Gasser was elected?

Dan Shea predicted at least a Million in wasted legal expense, his guess was low.

  2. Tell us again how Gasser saved us money by wasting it on ridiculous law suits?

  3. You refuse to listen Steven.

I’ve cut taxes every year I’ve been in office.

I say I because I have the authority to set the levy.

The board then votes on it.

During this time the road district has rebuilt two bridges.

That is unheard of in township government.

We may do a third next year on my way out.

We have solved the most difficult drainage issues that have existed for decades.

We have improved transparency at the road district – all bills posted online for your review.

We instituted internal controls so the road district no longer buys women’s clothing, vacations for the family, and gift cards for political friends on the township dime.

In spite of being set up by bob and Anna May we still accomplished a lot.

Yep we fought what I believe is a bad deal. T

he only negation we can find is an email from Rebecca lee, derek’s wife and bob’s daughter, to bob asking for things.

    Nepotism is gone.

There is a price to pay to drain the swamp. T

    he system is the system.

It is broken and it sucks.

By the way – they are giving the elected officials a pay raise tonight.

  4. Is it true Andrew Gasser has been attending university out of state while “phoning-in” his job as Highway Commissioner? Andrew, are you still with us..?
