Updated – Eric Ruth Being Eyed as Most Viable Candidate to Replace Allen Skillicorn

State Rep. Allen Skillicon has been unreachable by folks trying to figure out if he has really decided not to run for re-election.

But, the lack of contact and the upcoming deadline to replace him on the ballot has led to party leaders trying to figure out who might be able to beat McHenry County Board member Suzanne Ness, who is the Mike Madigan Democratic Party-financed candidate on the ballot.

At the Meet and Greet Ice Cream Social in Huntley this afternoon, one man announced his desired to be the candidate.

He is Gary Daugherty, Republican Precinct Committeeman in northern Kane County’s Rutland Township, Precinct 1.

His LinkedIn account says he does “social media and marketing for Parkwood International.”

Daugherty is also listed as the “Lead Instructor” of the Firearm Safety Institute.

In Huntley, he was heard to say, “My hat’s in the ring.”

One of the first possible replacements for Skillicorn is McHenry County Board member Carolyn Schofield–the woman he twice defeated in primary elections.

After having a low profile since the Mary election, missing the Algonquin and Grafton Township fundraiser in Algonquin last Monday, just as Skillicorn did, Schofield attended the Ice Cream Social.

She is not independently wealthy.

The name receiving most attention is Grafton Township Supervisor Eric Ruth.

He is the fourth generation in his family to be a township supervisor.

His Great-Grandfather was Coral Township Supervisor.

Both his Grandfather and Grandmother were Grafton Township Supervisor.

His father also served as Grafton Township Supervisor.

While Supervisor, the latest Ruth cut taxes an unbelievable amount.

Ruth has not been involved in Republican politics, but his father, Chuck, has been.

He was Lou Bianchi’s Finance Chairman, for instance.

The younger Ruth is now probably running Alliance Contracting, the firm his father built.

A fourth potential candidate has surfaced.

His name is Steve Klein and he lives in Southwest Crystal Lake. Balboa Appraisals is his firm.

  1. I hate township dynasties too, but of the three candidates mentioned here, Ruth probably would be the strongest.

I have trouble seeing Schofield as a strong candidate after she lost so badly in the primary, plus she isn’t as good looking as she used to be.

And Gary is a good activist but he’s got to weigh like 400 lbs and is out of breath.

No way can he compete with the Nimble Ness.

  2. Unless the candidate is experiencing tragedy, dying or illness, there should be no reason (s)he isn’t serving out the term.

If people wanted committeepeople to pick candidates, they wouldn’t vote at all. ☹️

  3. Eddie, Skillicorn had let people know before he went completely silent he will serve out term, and may explain why him and wife transferred residency to a rental home in Sleepy Hollow, within the district.

What he will do after his term ends is conjecture.

I don’t think this is political, because he’s throwing in the towel in the face of a tough race at the very last minute which won’t endear him to anyone for a future electoral run.

But tracing what happened to Skillicorn from early/mid July when he put $10K more in campaign account could provide answers as that money loan would indicate he was still planning to campaign.

We’ll learn more soon, but for now, it’s all conjecture until he starts talking.

  4. There is a reason they call Eric “ E Ruth the truth”.

By fare best man for the job.

But why would he want to give up running Alliance for a 65,000 year job if he is not willing to steal from the tax payers.

No way he will do it.

As for the Township dynasties, name the last township supervisor in any township to cut taxes as much as Ruth.

Has nothing to do with dynasties and all to do with the good of the cause.
