State Rep. Tom Weber Responds to Petition for Special Investigative Committee

FOX LAKE—On Monday, three House Republicans filed a petition per House Rule 91 to create a Special Investigative Committee.

The subject of the petition is Speaker of the House Mike Madigan, and the Deferred Prosecution Agreement entered into by ComEd and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

House Rule 91 provides for the creation of a Special Investigating Committee, and states:

“Disciplinary proceedings may be commenced by filing with the Speaker and the Minority Leader a petition, signed by 3 or more members of the House, for a special investigating committee. The petition shall contain the alleged charge or charges that, if true, may subject the member named in the petition to disciplinary action by the House and may include any other factual information that supports the charge or charges.”

In response to the filing, State Representative Tom Weber (R-Lake Villa) has issued the following statement:

“The facts in the deferred prosecution agreement as agreed to by ComEd implicate the Speaker of the House in a massive bribery scheme that took place over almost a decade. The allegations are incredibly serious and it is our duty to investigate those claims thoroughly.

“This alleged pay-to-play scheme is exactly why Illinoisans have lost faith in state government. We must use every tool at our disposal, including House Rule 91, to identify corrupt politicians and take appropriate disciplinary actions.”

  1. What took these freaks so long to do it?

Should have done within 72 hours of scandal breaking.

  2. When it comes to Illinois Republican politicians,
    NEVER confuse action with accomplishment.
