Message of the Day — From a Freelancer Impacted by the CA AB5 Law

What happens when an out of work freelance cartoonist turns their talent to the cause

As published on Labor Day on McHenry County Blog, the California Assembly Bill 5 law that went into effect at the start of this year in California, has impacted millions.

Monday, it was revealed how the IL House Speaker Mike Madigan equivalent in California, former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown was directly impacted by AB5, prior to a bill signed last week.

As Brown worked as a freelancer writing columns for the San Francisco Chronicle, another freelancer drawing for the Los Angeles Times, out of work due to AB5, applied his talent for the cause:

Since AB5 language went directly into the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act (H.R. 2474), Jim Thompson (Twitter: @JimmySportToons) decided to talk about AB5 at a national level.

And reminder, McHenry County’s two congressional representatives, Sean Casten and Lauren Underwood, both voted for the PRO Act back in February.
