Terry Link May Lose His Legislative Pension

Terry Link while running for Lt. Governor in 2009.

Lake County Democrat Terry Link was elected State Senator before the law went into effect prohibiting legislators from spending campaign money for personal expenses.

That law took effect on June 30, 1998.

Link took office in January, 1997.

The statute says that a legislator may spend up to the amount reported to the State Board of Elections on that June 30th.

Link reported having $12,777.71.

So, he could legally spent that amount on himself, paying income tax on any converted funds.

But in his Plea Agreement, he admits to converting $73,159.

That means he broke state law in spending over $60,000 of it.

The Federal Plea Agreement does not reference this misdeed, but Link did admit to a felony regarding income tax evasion.

Whether the General Assembly Retirement System Board will deny Link a pension based on that violation remains to be seen.

  1. This action should be across the Board to EVERY Politician! and anyone on STATE / FED funded $$ Not just the few…

  2. Make an example out of Link.

Given the kind of monies he was making over the years OUTSIDE of his nearly 24 years in Springfield, he can afford to lose his GARS pension, and he will when he starts fulfilling the Federal Plea Agreement and starts ratting out other current/former members of the IL General Assembly on the witness stand.

  3. That’s like saying that someone who got a drivers license before there were traffic lights, could run them with impunity?

    I don’t think so.

If that is the case, the system is broken and we need to defund and reimagine Congress.

    Take that Nancy…….

  4. Paraphrasing Clint Eastwood, as Dirty Harry said in the 1970s movie Magnum Force, I hate the [BLEEP] system, but until someone comes up with something better that’s what we’re stuck with.

Given Link copped a plea with the Feds, POLITICO stated Link likely won’t do any jail time, just probation, provided he cooperates and keeps his side of the Plea Agreement with the Feds, and that includes testifying against other current/former members of the ILGA.

Just waiting to see if the 73 year old Link, like most septuagenarians when facing sentencing, develops a health issues to validate the probation sentence, instead of doing real jail time as he deserves, in spite of paying back the back taxes and interest/penalty.

  5. If it’s illegal for Terry Link to use campaign funds for legal for personal use, why isn’t it illegal for Jack Franks to pay his attorneys fees out of his campaign funds?

  6. More cheat by mail, we just got another two letters, one in my name and the other in my wife’s, this time from the broke SOS Jessie White.

“Dear Elector”, in summary, the County election people has not received your vote by mail application that they sent you, get in touch with them to get that done, there is still time.

The kicker was that the paragraph was in English, then another paragraph that apparently says the same thing was in Chinese/Mandarin.

The next paragraph was in Arabic.

The next paragraph was in whatever language starts off with Szanowny Wyborco.

The last paragraph was in Spanish.

The letter signed from Jessie White, SOS in Springfield.

This is why our stickers on our plates are so expensive.

I must have received about $20 worth of vote by mail spam scam stuff from a State and or County entity and we wonder why the state is broke and can’t pay the unemployed.

This election is going to cause a civil war starting November 4th, some crooked stuff is happening and if the SCOTUS doesn’t step in, there will be riots later, just watch.

  7. Walker, the laws do not apply to exalted creatures such as the Jackoo.

We are Jackoo’s vassals, slaves and subjects.

We are not permitted, ever, to question Jackoo, or raise such issues about the propriety of anything the Jackoo does or omits to do.

The Jackoo is beyond our puny spheres and workaday woes.

The Jackoo is benevolent and a Great Man and the son of a Great Man down a total of 13 generations.

  8. Szanowy […] Is Polish.

The Secretary of State isn’t involved with elections.

    😮
