Marty McLaughlin Endorsed by Daily Herald to Replace David McSweeney

From the Daily Herald:

Endorsement: McLaughlin for state House Dist. 52

The voters in the 52nd Illinois House District have been spoiled by the representation of David McSweeney.

Marty McLaughlin

To all those who say individual state representatives are powerless in a General Assembly controlled by legislative leaders, we say look at the performance of the Barrington Hills Republican.

For eight years, McSweeney has served with unmatched energy and tireless efforts at building relationships on both sides of the aisle. and by keenly picking his spots, he’s been uniquely successful at getting things done.

McSweeney will be a tough act to follow, but the voters have two good options to do so — Barrington Hills Village President Martin McLaughlin and Democrat Marci Suelzer of Island Lake, who brings a well-rounded background in legal affairs and mental health.

We recommend McLaughlin, the Republican.

When we endorsed him for village president three years ago, we said he showed the “energy, resourcefulness, intimate knowledge of the workings of government, persuasion and a steadfast commitment to his vision, often in the face of heated opposition.”

Sound like anyone we know?

Suelzer is a solid candidate, but McLaughlin is the best choice for the district, which takes in parts of Algonquin, the Barrington area, Carpentersville, Cary, East Dundee, Fox River Grove, Hoffman Estates, Island Lake, Lake in the Hills and Wauconda.

  1. “The voters in the 52nd Illinois House District have been spoiled by the representation of David McSweeney.”

So in essence, the voters in the 52nd were spoiled by a politician who used the McHenry and Nunda Townships as a political smoke screen.

He and Jack Franks co authored the Township “Consolidation” Law, in an attempt to appear as “Tax fighters”.

Here’s what McSweeney said about the McHenry and Nunda Township road districts “tax eating amateurs” who are seeking “to protect their jobs, their patronage and their nepotism” (McH Chron Oct. 16-22, ’19).

The Daily Herald forgot to point out that this snake oil salesman also sponsored a previous version of this bill by now disgraced Sen. Terry Link which was vetoed by then Gov. Bruce Rauner.
