Sager’s Woodstock Taxing Record

From Steve Willson:

Brian Sager

According to the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for Woodstock for fiscal year 2019, property taxes went up in six of the preceding eight years.

And, property taxes were

  • in 2016 $9,142,568
  • in 2017 $9,241,101
  • in 2018 $9,387,854

To be fair, property taxes in FY2018 are actually lower than in FY2009 through FY2015.

But when Sager took over, the levy was $7,603,698.

By 2010, property taxes were up 32%.

Only since that peak, for which he’s responsible, have taxes been cut.

In short, during Sager’s tenure, property taxes are up 23.5%.

Further, in FY2005, when Sager took over, governmental funds total expenditures totaled $16.8 million.

In FY2019, the total was $24.5 million.

That’s a 46% increase on his watch.

  1. One more face lift and he’ll have a goatee!

Just to be fair, Wino-Rino Reick has voted to increase taxes, too.

  2. Add in the TIF district that went into effect a couple of years ago will make next years property taxes go through the roof.

Don’t forget gas tax increase and 1% sales tax increase.

Has Woodstock become better under Sager?

Don’t forget the pension funds solvency has gone down under Sager.

  3. This $%^& couldn’t even handle his own town BS what makes it think we want it to go anywhere else so he can screw us all! NOT!!!

  4. I originally sent this information to the Sun-Times when it endorsed Sager because of his record of cutting taxes.

What makes me sad is how easy it is to come up with these facts, and how few reporters (and editors) bother to do so.

The CAFR is on the City’s website, and the statistical section at the back provides a wealth of information in tabular form.

It doesn’t take a detective to find the information, and it doesn’t take quantum physics or even calculus to compute the percentage changes.
