The State Rep. District that David McSweeney captured after Mark Beaubien’s term was over (filled in the interim by Kent Gaftney), is the second McHenry County district in Mike Madigan’s crosshairs.
Three more mailings have been sent paid for by the Illinois Democratic Party controlled by Madigan.
These are in addition to the five positive pieces sent on Democrat Marci Suelzer’s behalf by Madigan’s State Democratic Party, all of which labeled her as “an independent voice for our community.” [Emphasis added.]
None of them mention the name of the female candidate running against Barrington Hills Village President Marty McLaughlin.
And here is the only direct mail piece I’ve seen from GOP candidate McLaughlin:
The Democrats are taking a low-dollar smear approach against McClaughlin, similar to their 2012 campaign against McSweeney when the seat was open (via McSweeney successfully primarying the appointed incumbent) and Democrats backed “independent” Dee Beaubien.
If the Democrats were really serious, you’d be seeing TV commercials of Marci Suelzer on broadcast TV like we see with Suzanne Ness and Dan Ugaste’s opponent, and many other in Madigan’s top races with of Republican seats he’s trying to flip.
Broadcast TV is where top-tier state House and Senate (as well as congressional) seats are successfully flipped or not.
The only thing extreme about Martin McLaughlin is his budget cutting/tax saving S seen when he was Mayor of Barrington Hills!

McLaughlin believes most of what McSweeney did, and thats what I want—not some looney tune with Madigan money out of Island Lake ready to make the whole District looney tunes.
Bob Wire, when you start to see Suelzer ads, or anti McLaughlin ads during the evening news hour on broadcast TV, you’ll know Madigan & Co. are putting serious cash to win the seat.
Right now, they are not making a serious effort to flip the open seat blue.

The mailings might stop if the candidate has a sophisticated campaign.
If you are not lockstep with Madigan and the Democratic Party you are extreme.
Especially if you want a balanced budget and cuts to pension reform.
