With presidential debate disputing cause of violence, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood faces real test with latest developments
As published on McHenry County Blog yesterday afternoon, attorneys representing Kyle Rittenhouse of Antioch announced a defamation suit will be filed against Joe Biden’s presidential campaign because in a video released after Tuesday’s debate highlighting “white supremacy”, Biden’s campaign included an image of Rittenhouse with the graphic of “as we saw in Kenosha,”.
And this morning, entering the month of October and every news organization looking to drop the fabled “October surprise” before the presidential election, NBC News released an article alleging the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) distributed a memo with talking points to make Rittenhouse look sympathetic.
Julia Ainsley, the NBC News reporter who broke the story at 4AM local time this morning, was interviewed at daybreak by NBC’s sister cable station, MSNBC. The 3 1/2 minute interview segment is below:
COMMENTARY: “Timing is everything in politics” and seeing this NBC News story break within 24 hours after Rittenhouse’s attorneys Lin Wood and Todd McMurtry of #Fightback Foundation announce a defamation suit against the Biden campaign over the “white supremacy” video, coincidence is ruled out.
Yet the most glaring omission in Ainsley’s story and her appearance on MSNBC is the complete lack of the memo itself, or the date this memo allegedly went out let alone the whos. Ainsley made clear it was unknown if this memo with talking points came from the White House.
But NBC News claims to have obtained the document, so in the interest of full disclosure, why not share it and release the document to the public?
Could this talking point document included facts released to the public on August 28 by Rittenhouse’s lead attorney, John M. Pierce to insure federal officials have the truth from Rittenhouse’s defense team?
Ainsley, in her interview, said an ongoing investigation would make this talking points memo unusual, but the Kenosha County prosecutor had already filed the six charges against Rittenhouse by Thursday, within two days of the Tuesday night, August 25 shootings.
So whatever investigation was concluded by Thursday, August 27, since the prosecutor filed charges in Wisconsin and wanted to extradite Rittenhouse at the August 28 court appearance in Lake County, IL.
As McHenry County Blog noted in its article about the facts, the attorney released the facts document late Friday afternoon on August 28, after Rittenhouse’s initial court appearance where the judge continued the case to September 25.
As previously reported on McHenry County Blog and elsewhere, last Friday’s court appearance revealed Rittenhouse to be fighting the extradition. The next court appearance in Lake County is scheduled for a week from tomorrow on October 9.
So what does all this have to do with Lauren Underwood? Plenty
Back around September 17, I tweeted how Kyle Rittenhouse could be the wildcard in the IL 14th congressional district election. The 2-week old prediction appears to be coming true.
As previously stated, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (D, IL-14) represents the village of Antioch in Congress, which makes her Rittenhouse’s congressional representative in the House.
Joe Biden’s presidential campaign has already released a video of Rittenhouse alleging the 17-year old is a “white supremacist” by inference. Biden has endorsed Underwood’s reelection.
And since the leaked document (but not released to the public) involves the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), any congressional questioning of DHS falls under the purview of the House Homeland Security Committee where Underwood serves as vice chairwoman. Committee members will likely want to question DHS leaders about the leaked memo.
Last month, at the House Homeland Security Committee, Underwood referred to Rittenhouse in the following way addressing FBI Director Christopher Wray:
“Your agencies have identified domestic violent extremism, particularly white supremacy as a leading threat to our Homeland. Last month a teenager from my district in Antioch, IL, went to Kenosha WI where he allegedly killed two people with an AR-15 style rifle amid the protests there.”

While Underwood’s referring to Rittenhouse, though not by name, came to the line of associating him with white supremacy, she did not cross the line like Biden’s campaign did with its video yesterday, which Lin Wood of Fightback has vowed to file a suit of defamation as a result.
Underwood’s nearly six minute questioning of the FBI director video from the September 17 committee hearing can be viewed here.
Underwood can be assured, given she represents Rittenhouse in Congress, should Underwood cross the line overtly like the Biden campaign did especially whenever Homeland Security questions DHS officials about the talking points memo, Fightback will be watching closely.
Underwood has a history of showing restraint on social media which President Trump, Joe Biden and especially Congressman Sean Casten (D, IL-06) could take a lesson from her. McHenry County Blog encourages Underwood to exercise the restraint she has shown to date in any setting discussing this matter, especially, in her capacity as vice chairwoman of Homeland Security she is interviewed to discuss the DHS talking points document.
As for Underwood’s Republican challenger, Jim Oberweis, he made his view of Rittenhouse’s action very clear on August 27, in his statement:
“The teen from Antioch should have never been in Kenosha in the first place.
“His recklessness has led directly to the deaths of two people.
“It is time for the leaders in Kenosha and in the Wisconsin state government to get control of the streets and end the violence.
“They are the adults in this situation, and they should start acting like it.”

One final note, the September 17 hearing of House Homeland Security Committee was the setting where ANTIFA was referred to as an “idea” by FBI Directory Wray, which was snatched by Joe Biden at the presidential debate on Tuesday night to dispute the President about ANTIFA.
UPDATE: Townhall Proves NBC News Misrepresented the Truth
Marina Medvin, a member of the #Fightback Foundation legal defense team for Kyle Rittenhouse, tweeted late Thursday afternoon Townhall writer Julio Rosas obtained a copy of the Department of Homeland Security memo:
“Townhall has obtained the DHS memo and it is different from how NBC News described it. There are two sections of the memo, ‘Situation’ and ‘Response’, a fact not included in their [NBC News] story.
“In other words, NBC News misrepresented what the memo said by not reporting how the ‘sympathetic’ talking points were not talking points at all given how they were in the ‘Situation’ section and not the ‘Response’ section. NBC News rolled two different components into just the ‘Response’ portion of the memo.

FINAL COMMENTARY: NBC News demonstrated why the mainstream media earned the moniker “Fake News Media” over the omission of the key facts about the DHS internal memo.
NBC News is busted slanting this story against the Trump Administration and Kyle Rittenhouse.
I knew there was something fishy when the memo was omitted from the NBC News story.
