Two New Female Democrats Ahead of GOP Incumbents for County Board

With the County Clerk having added the early and mailed in votes to the in-person Election Day votes for 212 of the 212 precincts, the County Board appears to have two new female Democrats on the Board.

They are in District 1, where Democrat Teresa Meches edged out Yvonne Barnes by 180 votes. Two more weeks must pass before official results are declared. During that time, ballots postmarked by today, but not counted, will be included in the totals. 180 votes is a lot to pick up from people voting by mail whose ballots did not reach the Clerk’s office by today.

Re-elected by Republican Tom Wilbeck.

In District 2, John Reinert is the incumbent trailing Democrat Jessica Phillips. He is behind 1,421 votes, a margin that is too large to overcome.

In District 3, newcomer Mike Shorten, a former Nunda Township Trustee leads Democrat Tanya Jindach by 188 votes, probably enough to gain a seat on the McHenry County Board. Running mate Joe Gottemoller also will retain the seat to which he was appointed after losing his last election.

In District 5, incumbent Democrat Paula Yensen, behind Damon Hill in Election Day votes, pulled ahead after the votes cast before Election Day were added. Hills trails by 1,787 votes, again an insurmountable margin.

Incumbent Republican Mike Skala ran first.

Hill beat the other Democrat, Lynn Gray.

The two Republicans running in District 6–incumbent Jim Kearns and newcomer Tracie Von Bergen–outdistanced Democrats Nancy Glissman and Larry Spaeth.
