Northwest Herald Has Trouble Featuring Election Winners It Hasn’t Endorsed

In March of 2014, Bill Prim was ahead of Andy Zinke by 98 votes when the Primary Election Day votes were tallied.

The Daily Herald article had an appropriate headline, “Prim sure winner for McHenry County Sheriff.”

“Prim sure winner for GOP sheriff in McHenry Co” is how the Daily Herald summarizes McHenry County Clerk Kathie Schultz’ opinion on March 20th

The story quotes McHenry County Clerk Kathie Schultz as sayin, with Prim’s 98 vote lead, there aren’t enough votes to make up the difference.

Schultz is referring to the four provisional votes and just under 50 absentee ballots that were outstanding on election day.

Implicitly, the veteran County Clerk, who has worked in the office since she graduated from Woodstock High School and is retiring this year, is saying that a recount would not change the results.

The Northwest Herald, which endorsed Zinke had the front page you see below:

Northwest Herald day after the March, 2014, election features loser Andrew Zinke.

Why the difference in editorial treatment?

Now comes the defeat of Northwest Herald favorite Jack Franks for re-election as McHenry County Board Chairman.

Since the NWH is no longer printed in Crystal Lake, but by the Daily Herald in northwest Cook County, its deadline is undoubtedly earlier than in previous years when the press was in the back room.

So, give the paper a pass on not featuring Franks’ defeat the day after the election.

But, look at the tabloid’s front page today:

No mention of Jack Franks’ stunning defeat two days after the election.

Republican Mike Buehler beat Jack Franks, whom the NWH endorsed.

That is a nothing less than a stunning rebuke to the Democrat who won ten previous elections.

But Buehler’s victory isn’t front page newsworthy in the Northwest Herald.

Go figure.

Here are totals so far:

Buehler-Franks results as of two days after Election Day.

There is no way Franks will make up 9,050 votes.

At 12:38 AM on Election Night, the Daily Herald had an article with the following headline “Franks on way out as McHenry chairman?”

  1. It’s Official!

BOTH the Northworst Herald and Jack Franks are finished.

Call Waste Management, it’s time to haul out the trash!

  2. It doesn’t matter what that rag of a newspaper says Mike is the clear winner and times they are A-Changin.

  3. C’mon Cal, be fair.

They have a helluva lot more trouble than that.

Printing a coherent, unbiased newspaper comes to mind.

  4. Northwest what?

Tell Peter Austin and his male factotum to start looking for new leech jobs.

So long Jackal, now you can howl at the moon naked w/o a nagging wife.

  5. NWH former employee/writer Kevin what’s his name….wonder if he still works for Franks?

I doubt he will have a job to go back to at the now defunct old fake news NWH.

    Bye bye Jack and company.

McHenry County finally had their fill of you.

Glad I stuck around to see it, even if they won’t report it.

  6. What every one fails to acknowledge is the fact that Franks got 71.000 votes

this is UFB I know we have a lot of stupidity running rampant here in McHenry county but 71,000 OMG

Also what becomes of Jacks hirelings are they jobless?

is he going to close his Woodstock office?

I can’t even bring myself to write any thing about the NWH worthless yellow rag

  7. Don’t see a “For Rent” sign up yet on 47 next to the Marathon station but perhaps soon.

And I trust Jack’s stoolies will be out the door.

    The Northworst Herald 4 sure.

  8. The NWH readership and subscription numbers are all lies.

The advertisers are getting bilked on false numbers.

They dump 300 newspapers every day to the McH Co. Jail.

They dump 400 newspapers every day to NW Hosp. (Centegra)

They dumped 100 papers everyday at the various libraries

Their readership is way down. Their subscriptions are way down.

    Their employees are way down.

Their lies and fake news are way up.

Can’t wait till it folds PERMANENTLY.

    Saturday and Sunday combined.

Next cut back: Tuesdays and Thursdays!

    Soon it will be gone.

    Yippee!

  9. Tonya, you’re the best!

I believe you mean Kevin Craven Craver, one of the Jackal’s jesters.

    The Franks Empire has collapsed.

Now let’s sights on the RINOs.

Fortunately, one of them, John ‘Petition Forger’ Reinert got the boot Tuesday.

Unfortunately, Joe “Blow” Gottemoller got re-elected after having been turned out.

    John Jung is another fake.

  10. The Sun Times is printed by the Trib.

Wonder who jobs the WSJ in Chicago market.

    ✌️😎

  11. Will the NWH survive until Xmas?

    I hope not.

    They falsify, lie and propagandize.

    Every month they lose money.

How about boycotting their big advertisers?

Tell Gary Lang to shove it if they continue to advertise in the rag.

    Have pickets on weekends.

“Gary Lang Supports Same Sex Degeneracy”

    “Gary Lang Supports Socialism”

    “Gary Lang Supports Fake News”

  12. If the RUMORS about Jacko or his family propping up the NW Herald are true, and Jack Franks loses, does that mean we get an inevitable collapse of the newspaper soon?

    I hope so.

That would be hilarious and good.

  13. Bill Matteson – Equally as scary are the 69.7 million Trumpers (as of 1:15 on 11/6.)

  14. Cal, are you serious?

You have never heard any Republican accuse the Franks family of bailing out the newspaper?

    Where did they appear?

I’m not sure. I’ve heard them in person and probably read them on this blog over the years.

The rumor is that the newspaper was about to go bankrupt and the Franks family somehow saved them.

I’m not saying it’s real, or even that I believe it, just saying that belief is out there, Cal, and I’m surprised you are unaware of this.

  15. Not Franks Family per se…… just Papa Franks.

    Shylockian to be sure.
