Message of the Day – More Hubris

Cal posted the “Hubris” message of the day on McHenry County Blog earlier today.

But there is so much more to this story, including WCIA-TV reporter Mark Maxwell using the magic word of today in a retweet of the Hannah Meisel tweet from yesterday.

I am challenged writing about “hubris” as it is something I know nothing about doing my writings let alone life. That said, I do know something about “projection”, and how one “projects” something about themselves when trying to apply a label to someone else.

Reporter Hannah Meisel’s tweet is the first part of a 6-part tweet thread which is quite revealing and not about the subject matter.

Transcribed for ease of reading is the rest of the thread:

“Also pictured is Congresswoman-elect Mary Miller, who easily won the primary for IL’s 15th congressional district to replace outgoing Congressman John Shimkus. Miller is the wife of IL House member Chris Miller.

“And yes, that is an ice cream sundae on Oberweis’ tie. (Oberweis Dairy)

“No masks, though.

“For the unfamiliar, Oberweis has run and lost for quite a few offices over the years.

“You do have to wonder why new member orientation is held inside the two-week period where final votes are still being counted in close races.

“Seriously. Did Nancy Pelosi’s team have a packet for him? I’m so confused.”

Hannah Meisel tweet thread 11/13/20

.

But as Meisel’s Twitter rant started, the Illinois State Board of Elections (ISBE) responded with a tweet of their own, a reminder for the media:

And there it was, ISBE making very clear the official winner of the 14th congressional district race is decided not by the Associated Press (AP) or members of the media, but under the duly authorized ISBE through the local election authorities under Illinois law.

So early this afternoon, I’d had my fill of all the projecting from the media on to Jim Oberweis:

This morning, the Chicago Sun-Times Deputy Managing Editor Marlen Garcia decided she had to tweet about Oberweis, too. My response below to her tweet:

I will discuss the various reasons, both stated and behind-the-scenes, why Oberweis attended new member orientation in an upcoming article.

  1. let him have his pitiful thrill before he packs it in for florida

  2. ** I am challenged writing about “hubris” as it is something I know nothing about doing my writings let alone life.**

    Hilarious.

  3. It doesn’t matter if he concedes or doesn’t.

    He lost.

    He’s down by 4,600 votes.

It doesn’t matter if the AP called it or the NY Times called it or Wasserman called it.

He lost and he’s not going to back from over 4,600 down.

Why do these Republicans refuse to live in reality?

There’s a difference between not conceding and not winning.

    He did not win.

It’s irrelevant if he concedes on his own terms.

A loss is a loss is a loss.

    And he lost!!!!

  4. Why bother with elections at all?

Just have Meisel declare all the winners.

These jewish ‘geniuses’ like Pritzker, Franks and Schakowsky must be dethroned.

  5. CPTKangaroo, which Meisel? 🤔

Congressperson Jan was divorced from Harvey Schakowsky, when her political career began. 😐

  6. Oh, you are right, it doesn’t matter if he concedes, and as I tweeted, concession is a courtesy and not a requirement.

But to be correct, and note how the ISBE rebuked reporter Hannah Meisel who called the unofficial returns “officially” made it clear the election is certified on Dec. 4 by the ISBE.

The votes will become official from the county clerks when their respective office canvasses all of the returns, between Nov. 18 and Nov. 24.

More accurately, Underwood is winning the game, but the game is not over until the ISBE declares the winner, even though it appears the winner has already been decided and the media, through the AP, has projected Underwood the winner.

  7. Hi John Lopez, were you going to tell us something about Allen Skillicorn’s campaign, rental home, after the election? 😐

  8. If I retain one abiding, surreal, memory of the Trump presidency in the years ahead it will be the Don dancing to the Village People in the wake of his numerous drives to legalize homosexuality in various African backwaters.

That the Red State Christians comprising so much of his base could maintain their self-adopted blind spot on this issue is a remarkable testament to the power of personality, because no world leader in history has done more in recent history than Donald Trump to export what E. Michael Jones has so aptly termed “the Gay Disco” — the double-barrelled shotgun of unbridled finance capitalism and the superficial freedom of sexual “liberty.”

As the pastors and preachers of South Carolina and Texas urged their huddled congregations to pray for the President, Trump was busy dispatching new missionaries, like U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, to the corners of the earth in search of converts to the Church of GloboHomo.

  9. What’s more ridiculous – a reporter saying the race is officially over or the Milk Dud showing up for orientation knowing he lost?

    The game is over.

When the Bears are losing 21-3 in the 4th quarter with 2:00 to go an no timeouts and the other team had the ball, the game is not official but it’s over.

That’s where we are at John.

    You know this.

    You’re arguing over semantics.

    Give it up.

    It’s over.

I’s embarrassing he’s going there like he has some shot at winning.

He doesn’t but you know this.

He’s making a fool of himself.

Your defense of him is silly actions is equally silly.

  10. Oh, we all know what he’s doing he’s doing for a reason.

We just don’t know what it is.

On your football metaphor, like you said, 2:00 in 4th, does the losing team forfeit the game?

    No, they play it out.

  11. In the football metaphor the fans and reports can turn off the game and do not have to pretend like the game is in doubt because, technically, there is time on the clock.

I guess if you’ve never watched football or you are a 7 year old kid them you can say there’s time on the clock but who cares?

There’s no coming back from this.

    You know it too.

    He’s done.

He’s making a fool of himself. Only in crazy right wing circles does this make sense.

I don’t care but I think it’s funny he’s doing it and funny you writing as if this is not over.

    Get with reality John.

  12. WCIA, a central Illinois station, featured Jim Oberweis, because he was standing next to US Rep.-elect Mary Miller, who will represent many downstate counties. 🤔😮😁

  13. Oh Oh, you can do better than that. “7 year old kid”?

Remember what I said about projecting?

    You prove my point.

  14. Suppose massive vote fraud was found in all or most of the seven counties.

    What would happen next? 🤔😮

  15. I’m really enjoying this last stand you’re taking on Milk Dud not conceding.

    Your insight is invaluable.

I think my work here is done.

God put me here on this website to call out your garbage and ensure Underwood won a 2nd term.

    I fulfilled His work.

This might be a nice time for a clean break.

    You lost.

You came here to try and flip the 14th.

    You failed.

    I won.

    Underwood is your Congresswoman.

    Biden is your President.

Try living in reality and just deal with it, special snowflake.

  16. Good for Oberweis.

This race was stolen from him as well.

Days/weeks later, ballots come in……in every case, those late ballots were beneficial to every Democrat from Biden on down.

Is there a single example of a Republican benefitting from the late fraudulent ballots?

Does that pattern mean anything to anyone interested in fair elections?

  17. CLM is shocked – SHOCKED – that mail ballots that were aggressively pushed by Democrats and aggressively attacked by Donald Trump somehow are heavily leaning towards Democrats.

  18. Democracy will survive Orv and Mark Levin and their crappy anti-democratic claims, and the lies about vote fraud.

It will survive because the people running the elections (of both parties), the DHS cyber security people who are part of Trump’s own administration, and judges nonpartisan and identified with both parties have all said there is no evidence of voter fraud that could have impacted the election in any way.

Opposite this, we have Orv’s dead-wrong copy pasta about the faithless electors or electors chosen contrary to the voters’ will and other nonsense.

This came up after Clinton won the popular vote but lost the electoral vote, with people breathless over the possibility that the
electoral college could be manipulated to give her the win.

She conceded the night of the election, though, and publicly conceded the morning after.

The pundits are talking about the damage to the democratic system.

It will survive, and Trump will not be installed as dictator.

Out of all this, maybe we will get a national examination of election systems so we have a standard BUT STILL LOCALLY CONTROLLED system.

One standard for absentee, early, mail-in, in-person voting, and verification of ballots.

We are the most technologically advanced country, with the greatest track record of liberty and democracy for over 200 years.

We’ve been looked to as leaders in democratic institutions.

To extent this has been weakened, we can seize it back by investigating and implementing reforms.

We won’t do it via more gerrymandering, voter suppression, or other tactics that work -short term – to tip the system to the advantage of one party or the other.

I’m hopeful that the problem-solvers in congress will work toward this.

  19. Lopez is right on about “projecting.”

Puckett, that’s quite an article thanks!

How long such websites will be up is debatable.

A slow mortion Civil War is forming.

    Buy your ammo soon.

  20. Suppose a ton of vote fraud is found in 6 or 7 counties?

Does Congressperson Underwood vacate her office, until the next election?

Then, nobody is representing the district for a while. 😐🤔

  21. You go OB don’t concede until buckwheat chit storm her peeps created gets all verified, via count, by hand, verified not dead voters and are LEGAL to vote ! and that each ballot is confirmed.

Cause we all know the kind of chithole we live in here…
