Marengo Seeks Maximum Increase in Tax Levy

On Marengo’s November 23rd agenda is its tax levy for next year.

$I,702,73S will be requested, up $64, 282 from this year’s $1,638,453.51.

That is a 3.92% increase.

However, the Tax Cap law, known at PTELL by the technocrats, does not allow a hike greater than 2.3%.

Why the larger request?

It’s called balloon levying.

Asking for more than is allowed is an attempt to capture all of the new assessed value put on the books from new construction, for instance.
