The Chicago Tribune tries to put pressure on Democrats who have not come out against the re-election of Mike Madigan as Illinois House Speaker in its editorial today:
The only member of the Black Caucus who has not endorsed his re-election as Speaker is Rockford’s Maurice West.
The Tribune quotes West’s pre-election survey as saying he could oppose Madigan because Madigan did not finance his election:
It’s mostly women standing up to Madigan. I counted 13 women and 6 men.
If the line holds, that should be enough to prevent him from becoming Speaker.
Good for the women!

It’s good that a representative body have turnover and a change of guard every so often.
Otherwise you wind up like Illinois, where your legislature is no more effective than an impacted bowel.
