Democrats Not Supporting Mike Madigan’s Re-Election to House Speaker

The Chicago Tribune tries to put pressure on Democrats who have not come out against the re-election of Mike Madigan as Illinois House Speaker in its editorial today:

The only member of the Black Caucus who has not endorsed his re-election as Speaker is Rockford’s Maurice West.

The Tribune quotes West’s pre-election survey as saying he could oppose Madigan because Madigan did not finance his election:

  1. It’s mostly women standing up to Madigan. I counted 13 women and 6 men.

    If the line holds, that should be enough to prevent him from becoming Speaker.

  3. It’s good that a representative body have turnover and a change of guard every so often.

    Otherwise you wind up like Illinois, where your legislature is no more effective than an impacted bowel.

  4. It’s about time there are enough voices of reason to influence change.

    When Madigan is unseated, it will be one of the most historically significant moments in Illinois history.
