$2,009,500 McHenry Township Road District Levy Filed, Down $905,000–over 30%–from Commissioner’s $3 Million Request

From the McHenry County Clerk’s Office comes the tax levy for real estate tax bills to be paid in 2021:

The McHenry Township Road District tax levy was filed yesterday without Highway Commissioner Joe Condon’s signature, presumably after the Appellate Court decision upholding the decision of the McHenry Township Board.

Trustee Steve Verr proposes cutting Road & Bridge Fund levy by $400,000.

It contains the numbers approved by the ruling majority of the Township Board:

  • Bob Anderson
  • Steve Verr
  • Mike Rakestraw

The Hard Road Fund was reduced from $1.5 million suggested by Condon to $995,000 and the Road and Bridge Fund from $1.5 million advanced by Condon to $1.1 million.

Verr argued there were sufficient “excessive reserve funds.”

Anderson said he thought “the Road District is overstaffed.”

McHenry Township Clerk Dan Aylward filed the document before the Appellate Court decision was released.

  1. So, can someone challenge the validity of the filed levy document given that the document is not signed by the Highway Commissioner?

And if that challenge were successful, does that mean there would be no levy for the Road District for the upcoming year?

  2. Perhaps the lack of funds for Condon will eliminate some of the unnecessary “busywork jobs” he sends his overstaffed crew out to do.

At a time when we have less snowfall than in the past, what do they do?

Install miles and miles of snow fence.

    Is it necessary?

    No.

Do you see any other townships putting up such a ridiculous, excessive number of fences?

    No.

    Why?

Because they don’t have the funds or the excessive staff.

No money, cut back on unnecessary frills.

Kudos to board members Verr, Anderson and Rakestraw for reigning Condon in.

  3. Obstructionists Anderson, Rakestraw and Verr.

They’ll get blown outta da water next election.

  4. Dan Aylward sold the taxpayers out when Mahady the Township Assessor gave him s huge tax reduction.

It’s all public, look it up.

    C-O-R-R-U-P-T-I-O-N

  5. The Road District Commissioner’s attorney made an error, and the 3 wacko trustees win on a technicality.

This whole case should have been won, but the McHenry County judge was tied into Prime Law Firm.

The people of McHenry Township lose BIG TIME because 3 idiots want to make a splash, a County Judge rules for his pals, and a higher court doesn’t care and is more interested in taking a Christmas vacation.

    It’s obseen!

  6. Save Townships

(Save them from what? Taxpayers? Corrupt township officials? Antiquity?),

Maybe the McHenry Township Road Boss Tweed should ponder a malpractice claim against his nitwit attorneys like Rebecca Lee (Bob Miller’s Daughter).

That is, if Bob Miller will ever ok it.

Townships are not fiefdoms for the Condon and Miller families to soak us for their high life styles (Disneyland trips, Louis Vuitton handbags from. Amazon, mystery accumulated ‘sick pay’ packages of $45k on the way out).

Yes taxpayers have rights of self defense too from the predations of township crooks!

This township Roadie didn’t have a Kenneally type prosecutor to slap his wrist and write a fifty page diatribe why township crooks are really, really bad but beyond the law’s reach in McHenry Country:

  7. “Save Townships”:

You wrote this: “This whole case should have been won, but the McHenry County judge was tied into Prime Law Firm.“

What evidence do you have that this judge was tied to that firm?

I think you have none, and you are an anonymous and cowardly liar disparaging a good and honest judge.

As a side note, the judge’s ruling referenced the recorded record.

    The appellants lost on appeal.

The appellate court noted they did not know the judge’s reasoning, but they upheld his ruling.

Be clear in this: it is the appellant’s job to furnish a complete record in appeal, which would include transcripts of proceedings.

The judge had no role in getting the record on appeal to Elgin.

  8. Martin, are you Bob the Barber Anderson?

The judges didn’t even read the state law that says only the Road District Commissioner can set the levy!

No we have chaos and Many possible read accidents and deaths bc the roads cannot be maintained right.

Jim Condon is a great road district commissioner.

Actually the best in a multiple county area.

He doesn’t deserve to be trashed by ignorant judges who don’t know the law.

You cannot know how hard Jim Condon works for the taxpayer.

When the Township is used for a series of tragic road accidents, send the bill to Bob Anderson!

  9. So you are a liar.

You threw out that accusation against Judge Costello with no basis.

You idiot, my name is the name I use here and my two licensed professions have identified me here for years.

I am not a barber, however.

That’s one license I do not hold.

  10. Perhaps a Petition to dissolve McHenry Township can get started and taken over by the McHenry County Highway Department?

  11. With Jim Condon, all I can say is ‘what goes around comes around!’

    Now the criminal probe.

    Nice finish to 2020

  12. Why all the focus on townships?

School districts are the big culprits.

Yes townships are very bad, why can’t school boards do what this township board did?

Are they captives of their govt body or what?”

  13. Well said SCT.

The huge bulk of your tax bill goes to the schools.

Townships take only a small portion.

    TEACHERS UNIONS!

  14. Hey Blow, quit kiting for corrupt townships.

That Board did something unheard of—— the put the taxpayers first.

Finally some people who couldn’t be bought, tricked or shut down.

    Next target: school boards.

  15. I like what the trustees did.

They should be state senators or US Congressmen.

    GREAT JOB!

    A 30% haircut.

    How about 70% next time?
