Durbin to Target Rightwing Groups as Chairman of Senate Judiciary Committee — 37 Comments

  1. They just can’t wait to start an all out CW while believing that they
are totally immune from the consequences of their treachery.

    They just can’t help themselves.

Yes, power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Nothing proves this more succinctly than the power madness of DEMOCRATS.

  2. You left off the word “extremist.” What a joke. I clicked on the link and the word “extremist” was missing. You make it sound like Durbin is just going after any and all right wing groups. Lazy or intentionally deceitful?????

As far as Durbin focusing on ring wing extremist groups? GOOD!!!! Seriously, who doesn’t want that?

Trump’s own FBI director said that the greatest domestic terrorist threat is white supremacists:</b?

Nov 5, 2019 – "A huge chunk of those domestic terrorism investigations involve racially-motivated, violent extremist-motivated terrorist attacks," Wray said. "And the majority of those, of the racially-motivated, violent extremist attacks, are fueled by some kind of white supremacy. And I would say that the most lethal activity over the last few years has been committed by those type of attackers."

Sept. 17, 2020 – U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., a former CIA analyst, asked Wray to discuss the number of investigations into white supremacist groups versus groups on the left. Wray replied that the FBI has roughly 1,000 domestic terrorism investigations a year, though it is a "good bit north of a thousand this year."

"Everything from racially-motivated violent extremists to violent anarchist extremists, militia types, sovereign citizens, you name it. Of the domestic terrorism threats, we last year elevated racially-motivated violent extremism to be a national threat priority commensurate with a homegrown violent extremists," Wray testified. "That’s the jihadist-inspired people here and with ISIS." Slotkin pressed further and asked how many of the cases or arrests involved white supremacists.

"What I can tell you is that, within the domestic terrorism bucket category as a whole, racially-motivated violent extremism is, I think, the biggest bucket within that larger group, and within the racially-motivated violent extremists bucket, people subscribing to some kind of white supremacist-type ideology is certainly the biggest chunk of that," Wray said." So the white supremacists are the largest chunk of the racially-motivated domestic terrorists?" Slotkin asked. Wray replied "yes" part way through her asking the question.

Sept. 23 testimony by Chad Wolf, acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, that white supremacists have become the “most persistent and lethal” internal “threat” to the U.S. “White supremacist extremists, from a lethality standpoint over the last two years, particularly when you look at 2018 and 2019, are certainly the most persistent and lethal threat when we talk about domestic violent extremists,” Wolf said.

    SO CAL, WHAT’S THE ISSUE???????

    SO CAL, WHAT’S THE ISSUE???????

  4. So Cal, you edited out the part about “extremist” groups being Durbin’s target, and added in that he is doing so “to seek publicity.”

How did you come that that conclusion from the story?

  5. A Dick running the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. What an embarrassment.y

The “Growing Threat”? How about investigating the mostly left wing groups that promoted riots in 2020?

Better for our Nation if this Dick were to investigate all of the riots, burning, looting across our country in 2020. What about “LEFT WINGER” groups that occupied parts of cities for days, weeks? Who specifically were those persons? What about the riots and looting in Chicago last summer? Done by left wingers and likely supporters of Democrats and the new moron president? How about investigating the origins of the group from CA that paints their logo/acronym all over even on streets? Investigate the illegitimate use of taxpayer funds by the mayor of DC to illegally paint large words of the logo on a street in that town?

  6. Who decides just who the “extremists” are ?

    The DEMOCRATS, that’s who.

From banning Alex Jones to banning Trump in just 18 months,
the purge is well under way.

  7. Yeah I would have to agree, what is extreme is subjective.

I have no doubt that to a democrat anyone who does agree with them is either extreme or dumb.

They tell us that every day.

  8. And Oh, why do you complain he left extreme off?

He has the statement right there.

The words extreme and extremist are in the original post, so he was clear about that’s what Durbin meant.

    Wait…

I get it, he didn’t use the word in the headline, that’s it.

Just like how the NYT puts the full details all the way at the end.

You just don’t like when someone with a different opinion uses the same tricks.

  9. “From banning Alex Jones to banning Trump in just 18 months”

Yeah, losing corporate business partners is one of the many consequences to inciting a mob. This was all predictable if not totally inevitable.

‘Someone’s going to get killed’: GOP election official in Georgia blames President Trump for fostering violent threats
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/georgia-official-trump-election/2020/12/01/f1d5c962-3427-11eb-b59c-adb7153d10c2_story.html

People pushed lies. Knowingly or not. Many people on this website pushed the lies and BS. Whether they were brainwashed or knew better or decided not to search for the truth…. well only the individuals who spread and fed into the BS know that answer. Hopefully anyone who pushed the BS here or elsewhere will do some self reflecting on why and how they came to push BS. Most will not. Maybe some will?

Whatever the case, Trump fueled the mob attack. He’s lucky if all that happens is he loses business partners. “Getting banned” is the very very very best case for him.

  10. Oh and DICK will be prosecuting cheaters… hahahahaaha…LOL….

  11. Sorry Neal. You are wrong on a couple points.

First, you were wrong that the joint statement was in the post (hint: “NBC has learned”).

Second, to get the statement you need to click on the link. When you click on the link the statement to NBC News never uses any of the “right wing” language:

“Senate Democrats, along with the Biden administration, will work together to investigate, expose, and hold accountable domestic terrorism threats in our country,” Durbin and Schumer said in a joint statement to NBC News.

NBC reported the focus will include extremist groups including The Proud Boys, QAnon, white nationalist groups and boogaloo. NBC did not report that Durbin is going after “right wing groups.”

Cal incorporated NBC News’ reporting of “right wing extremists” but omitted (intentional? lazy?) the most important word to describe the groups – extremists.

The above mentioned groups are right wing extremists groups.

Par for the course on this blog.

  12. The definition of what is extreme is entirely subjective.

I have no doubt that they will go after any and all political opponents.

The establishment is in a panic at the moment and should not be trusted.

  13. Unfortunately I agree with you.

The Proud Boys, QAnon, white nationalist groups and boogaloo are no longer objectively considered extreme.

They are main stream groups in many GOP circles.

  14. To your point and to my point, Cal omitted the word “extremists.”

Maybe it wasn’t lazy or intentional.

    Maybe it was subconscious?

Proud Boys and QAnon are no longer viewed by many on the right wing as “extremists.”

Many view them as main stream right wing groups living comfortably under the GOP tent.

Like many in the capitol mob, they were just invited with open arms.

  15. Finally the lefty equivalent to McCartyism: DURBINISM

    I should probably copyright that.

  16. Many years ago, that group had marched and chanted threats to police by saying, “Pigs in a blanket, fry them like Bacon”.

Don’t recall that Barak Hussein Obama nor his sidekick Biden nor Pelosi or Schumer condemned this.

  17. A year of BLM and Antifa domestic terrorism costing 2 Billion.

And 34 lives, so far. Portland, Minneapolis, Chicongo, St. Louis, NYC, Seattle, Atlanta, Greensboro, Kenosha.

    Isn’t that domestic terrorism?

    Not to theFBI!

  18. Dick Durbin seeks to become Illinois’ own McCarthy!

That would be CHARLIE McCarthy the wooden headed dummy, not Joseph McCarthy. Tailgunner Joe was smarter and had a better personality.

  19. Hey Oh, go fly a kite.

As for par for the course for this blog, pulleeze go play a different course, duffer.

  20. According to the FBI, white supremacists pose the greatest (not the only) terrorist threat.

Even assuming such evaluation is inaccurate, if white supremacists pose any domestic terrorist threat why shouldn’t they be investigated ?

And how, exactly, have Democrats banned Jones and Trump ?

I thought they were banned by private companies.

Can someone cite an instance of the government banning such speech ?

Moreover, do we want to have government compel private speech (the First Amendment doctrine of compelled speech) ?

    https://www.mtsu.edu/first-amendment/article/933/compelled-speech#:~:text=The%20compelled%20speech%20doctrine%20sets,group%20to%20support%20certain%20expression.

  21. Trump going to be impeached twice. Pence won’t even talk to him and he has a direct line to God. LOL MAGA DUMB A$$. It’s all coming crashing down. Should have bailed off the Trump Train while you could. Now, live with the ruins of the GOP.

As I told everyone here – Pence would not do what John Lopez prayed for him to do. God did not answer his prayers. As I told everyone here – Trump would go after Pence mercilessly. Pence would break with Trump. I still don’t know who gets the evangelicals in the Trump/Pence divorce but Lopez seems to be stickling with the guy he thinks God sent. I have yet to see Lopez acknowledge on this blog Trump’s role in incited the mob attack. I’ll sure he’ll do it just after impeachment when he sees GOP reps voting to impeach. Too little. Too late.

Maybe God sent Trump as a test to all you religious people to see if you choose a pollical party over the right thing? If that’s the case, many of you and others failed His test. Maybe God sent Trump to destroy the Republican party. As Koziol points out, “God works in mysterious ways”

Just wish more people would have followed their hearts instead of a political party and con man. Oh well. Tough s***

Now all of you die hard Republican Trump supports get to reap what you have sown.

  22. “And how, exactly, have Democrats banned Jones and Trump ? I thought they were banned by private companies. Can someone cite an instance of the government banning such speech ?”

You are correct that neither the democratic party or the government has banned Trump or any other conservative.

These private companies however are ran by people who have political views that align with the democrats and they have allowed others with political views they agree with to make threats and organize violence on the same platforms without repercussion.

What the legitimate concern is, is that we are seeing a merging of the state and big corporations.

Amazon dropping Parlar further plays into that since they are now trying to control other platforms.

That completely shuts down the build your own platform if you don’t like it argument.

There is hate speech, threats of violence, actual organizing of violence on ALL of these platforms. Parlar TOS doesn’t allow for such things either, it’s actually stricter than Twitter on some things.

The only difference is if you have one political view they allow it, if you have a different point of view, you get banned.

Twitter, Facebook, etc should remove ALL threats and incitement from ALL political views, not just those of the right.

  23. We are at the point where one of our elected officials says they will investigate domestic terrorism, and that elicits nothing but unhinged attacks from you peanuts.

Don’t we want to investigate threats to our democracy, and to our citizens?

If there is an honest disagreement as to whether a given group is a “terrorist” organization, an investigation would be helpful to settle such disagreement.

Isn’t that an important part of our government’s job?

You’re not pro-domestic terrorist, are you?

  24. I have no problem with the government arresting people who commit crimes such as Jan 6th.

I also demand that they equally go after the domestic terrorists who have been burning down buildings and looting all summer long.

So, I’m anti terrorism no matter what, even if I might politically agree with some of the points.

Will all the people complaining also denounce people who they agree with when they commit acts of violence?

All summer long the democrats and the legacy media did nothing but make excuses for domestic terrorism. What about when BLM stormed the white house?

Why is that treated with kid gloves but the one time Trump supporters act up everyone is out for blood?

  25. What the h*** are you talking about?

The government did go after people who burned buildings.

Cal even posted some people who were indicted on this blog.

    Stop with the BS.

    https://www.king5.com/article/news/local/suspect-arrested-in-connection-with-fire-at-seattles-east-precinct-taken-into-federal-custody/281-8a9f5640-8c23-482b-98de-9bb70b48d96f

There might be some weird filter on how many links can fit into a post so I’ll send you some reading material, Neal.

    You seem so ill-informed.

  26. That’s in a Red State Oh.

A state with a sad sack called Mormon Mitten Manequin.

  27. Neal

In my experience, for-profit companies make business decisions based upon business (typically, bottom line), not political, considerations. I’m not disputing what you contend, but neither do I believe it without proof.

And I assume you would likewise be concerned about media outlets such as Fox News, which is owned by a conservative Australian billionaire and virtually without exception broadcasts a conservative perspective.

Again, what you seem to be advocating (compelled speech by government) is, at least at present, a First Amendment violation.

Apart from market forces or government compulsion, how else would such a Fairness Doctrine become a reality ?

  28. Oh if only hoover were alive…the jails would be overflowing
