McHenry and Nunda Townships held referendums asking residents whether they wanted the their township boards to put garbage collection for unincorporated.
Both passed.
The Algonquin Township Board will discuss the topic Wednesday night.

Currently, McHenry County contracts with Lakes Disposal Service for pick up in unincorporayed McHenry Township and unincorporsted Wonder Lake in McHenry and Greenwood Townships.
Nunda Township contracts with MDC (Marengo Disposal Service).
Don’t do it. We had our choice of three disposal companies forty years ago. Now we are STUCK with whatever morons the city “decides” to contract us to. They are the worst possible people to have to deal with and they continually harass us for picayune charges they make up in their billing department. It has been three years of fighting these nitwits all because “our local government” made deals for us.
Fewer trucks, less road damaged.
Prairie Land is the cheapest and only sends one teuck for garbage and recycling.
Groot and WM cost more and send 2 trucks each on my township road.
Service can be a issue as Cindy points out, but I’d like to hear from Cary residents who’ve had contracts for multiple years now.

Nothing is so simple that government cannot screw it up and make it more expensive.
Using OPM (other people’s money) and lacking a profit motivation you’ll find it hard to find many things of a commercial nature that government can do better or cheaper.
