Break for Criminals, But Not for Those Obeying the Law

“More Guns, Less Crime” by John Lott.

ABC has the story headline above.

An end to cash bail in most instances.

But the other people in poverty state law penalizes is the one for concealed carry.

With the training and permit costs, the ability to protect oneself and family is out of reach of many in Chicago and elsewhere.

This is amply documented in John Lott’s book, “More Guns, Less Crime.”

Here are estimates of costs:

  • $10 – FOID (Fireowner’s Identification) card
  • $150 – Application for Concealed Carry Permit
  • $75 – Fingerprints to expedite the processing of the CC card
  • $95 to $400 – CCL course cost
  • $200 – Ammunition, holster, range time to be able to reliably and safely hit anything
  • $500 – firearm (minimum $500 for a reliable one)

The above comes from a Concealed Carry instructor.

In its daily briefing, WBEZ reported the following yesterday:

Gun dealers told the Chicago Sun-Times they are selling more firearms after the attempted coup, and it comes after a marathon year for the industry.

According to the newspaper, Illinois State Police “reported 554,195 gun-transfer inquiries in 2020, compared to 385,770 in 2019 — an increase of nearly 44%.” Those numbers come from the process of beginning background checks on possible firearm buyers. They do not indicate the exact number of firearms bought because a single background check could include multiple guns.

It’s not clear how many guns were bought after Jan. 6, but previous records were reported in March as the pandemic began and in June during protests over the police killing of George Floyd. [Sun-Times]

  1. Wait until you have to be approved by a jewish psychologist. And must have insurance.

  2. and there is the cost of ammo

I used to be able to buy a box of 50 rounds for $12 in either .380 …9mm or 38 caliber

    now its $70 per 50

so to offset the cost I reload my own..now there is great difficulty in getting the components

    Powder and primers

still waiting for my CCL renewal since March of 2020 whats up with that?

  3. John Lott is right about the cost barriers to legally carry a weapon in this State–and it impacts those who need that protection the most–residents on the South and West sides of Chicago.

I asked State Senator McConchie about this once and he went into some prepared rambling politic speak that didnt address it but changed the subject, that has me soured on him ever since.

RINO type of answer, as if he’s a planted Dem operative, like paid opposition.

    Anyway.

Give the poor Black and Hispanic most in need of protection a break.

  4. McConchie is a wheelchaired hoodlum doing his master’s bidding.

    In short, a fraud
