State Take on Sports Betting Really Small

From the Illinois Church Action on Alcohol and Addiction Problems (ILCAAAP) comes this summary of what state government gains from sports betting–2%:

IL gamblers bet $449.2Million on Sports in November

That resulted in nearly $6.2 million for the state’s tax coffers, and Cook County received $425,355 in tax revenue on 2% of adjusted gross revenue for all wagers placed in the county.  

Governor Pritzker issued Executive Order 2020-41 to “suspend the in-person registration provision required to gain access to mobile sports wagering”.

  1. That’s 5,930, with a whole lot of zeros, annualized.

    State gets 1.078 for Mr. P to spend with his zombies.

  2. I know what is going to happen with this.

    Some Pols will express great dismay that the State isn’t making enough, the State will raise the tax, and the gamblers will go back to their friendly neighborhood bookies.

    Personally, I’d rather deal with the mob in any case.

    For the most part, they are more far honorable than the State of Illinois.
