Marter’s second primary challenge to Kinzinger completely disrespected by the 6-term incumbent 15 years his junior

As McHenry County Blog published Wednesday, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R, IL-16) all but completely closed the door on running statewide next year, and appears to be running for reelection to the U.S. House for a 7th term.

On Tuesday morning at a press briefing, Kinzinger was asked about one of the declared candidates challenging him for the nomination next year, Kendall County Republican Party Chairman James Marter, who unsuccessfully primaried Kinzinger in 2018.

Kinzinger, who turns 43 this month, did a classic dis:

“I guess we don’t even know what the new district looks like. He didn’t live in the district last time, so I guess that doesn’t necessarily preclude him. He’s got a great history of losing races, and I certainly would welcome him to the race. Because if last time was any indiciation will be a pretty easy [district] primary for me.”

.

Ouch.

Marter launched his 2022 bid for Congress on conservative radio show host Andrew Wilkow’s program last weekend.

The entire segment can be heard here.

UPDATE: 2018 Republican primary vote and Scott Presler returns February 20

Here is the final 2018 Republican primary vote totals in the Kinzinger vs. Marter primary for IL-16:

In the 2018 Republican primary, Marter raised and spent little over $63K, according to Federal Elections Commission (FEC) reports.

At the end of 2020, Kinzinger reported a total of just over $1.5 million.

Early Thursday afternoon, conservative activist Scott Presler tweeted he would be returning to IL-16 to train volunteers for primarying Kinzinger.

Presler was last in Illinois two weeks ago on January 27.

Finally, I dropped the “cancel culture” reference originally published, as multiple commenters are correct it was misapplied.

IL-16: Adam Kinzinger to be Challenged Again by James Marter *UPDATED* — 16 Comments

  1. I don’t think Kinzinger has the intellect nor self-awareness to realize what a dullard he truly is.

    He’s cringe.

  2. I can’t disagree with the effeminate Kinzinger in this case.

Will somebody please stop Marter from embarrassing himself?

Isn’t there anybody with any credibility that can run?

A mayor of a town of 700 would do the trick.

The only think Marter being on the ballot does is split up the anti-Kinzinger vote.

This is what the swamp is good at.

Marter must be hoping to get this stupid fool Kinzinger re-elected.

Does he just get his jollies by seeing his name on a ballot?

  3. Yeah, I agree with Kinzinger.

Marter got dragged last time for not living in the district.

Kinzinger is correct that Marter does not do well when he runs for office.

Didn’t he finish in fifth place out of 7 when he ran in the 14th district?

And when he ran against Kinzinger he only got about 30 percent.

He is bad at fundraising too.

He is not a strong candidate, and there is no need to rush into an announcement when you don’t even know what the district will look like.

Chase is right about the anti-Kinzinger vote splitting.

You’re going to need to narrow it down before the primary even begins.

Some people will have to put aside the ego.

  4. **a classic cancel culture dis**

Serious question — what about Kinzinger’s quote was related to “cancel culture.”

Ironically, it sure seems like it is the conservatives/Trump supporters that want to “cancel” Kinzinger.

  5. Marter needs to stop and check himself and let Trump pick the replacement.

Either way, Adam has lost a lot of credibility but you might as well let the Trump people do it.

  6. Nice try, Alabama.

    Conservatives don’t “cancel” anything.

We discuss and argue merits, logic, and reason.

    Liberals cancel.

You’re either on their side – 100%, or you’re canceled.

It’s ok to disagree…in fact we welcome disagreement and argument.

It makes for a better debate and sharpens understanding of the truth.

    But liberals don’t want that.

Sharpen understanding of Climate Change? – sorry, no room for debate.

    BLM and race relations?

    sorry, no room for debate.

    Transgender being a legitimate reality?

    sorry, no room for debate.

To liberals, if you formulate a debate against the dogma, you are OUT.

    Kinzinger is a feckless Republican.

    Should he be the congressman?

    Yes.

Can he legitimately run for re-election.

    Absolutely.

    Let the argument begin.

    Alabama, YOU are wrong.

    You know it.

Cancel culture isn’t on our side, it’s on yours….and it’s sickening.

  7. BOOM ! CLM blows up AS.

Actually, he did it to himself.

Tell us another one of your “truths”, AS.

  8. I had the same question as Shake.

I didn’t find Kinzinger’s quote to have anything to do with “cancel culture.”

He was stating a fact that Marter loses.

If Republicans want to replace Kinzinger, they should find a strong candidate who they are confident can win.

    Is Marter that person?

(I happen to like Marter but acknowledge he isn’t a strong candidate.)

And I agree that most Republicans DO want to “cancel” Kinzinger.

I am one of the people who would like to see him replaced.

I don’t agree with Chase that Kinzinger is *actively* working on behalf of Kinzinger to get him re-elected.

I think Marter is a sincere candidate, just not a strong one.

At worst, he’s a useful idiot.

I agree with Chase that splitting the anti-Kinzinger vote is a problem though.

Please keep us posted on any campaign announcements, John.

  9. I jest (only somewhat) that Marter is actively supporting the effeminate narcissist Kinzinger.

I do think Marter must be a narcissist who gets his jollies by seeing his name on a ballot, no matter how small his chances are.

If he really cared he would step aside and back a serious candidate.

  10. Well, weird day around here, as Lopez and Correcting agree with me, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  11. I’ll need to find out if there is a registration process, where it’s at, when, basic things like that, but I might be able to send an associate out there.

If I can arrange that, McHenry County Blog should get some form of a write-up.

  12. I thought I said “serious” and “credible” candidates.

    Reading must be difficult.

  13. There’s already four useful idiots/complicit traitors helping Effeminate Kinzinger win the primary.

Marter is Useful Idiot exhibit A.
