Judge Finds Lake in the Hills Home Invader Guilty

From the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office:

DEON DUFF FOUND GUILTY OF HOME INVASION, CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO RESIDENCE, AND AGGRAVATED FLEEING OR ATTEMPTING TO ELUDE A PEACE OFFICER AFTER BENCH TRIAL

Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that Deon Duff of Maywood, Illinois, was found guilty after a bench trial held on February 10, 2021, before the Honorable Judge Coppedge.

Evidence at trial showed that Duff

  • found the victim at a residence in Lake in the Hills on June 26,
  • struck the victim outside of the residence and
  • dragged her into the residence by her hair.

The victim retreated to a bedroom where Duff followed and repeatedly struck the victim causing multiple injuries.

Once police were called, Duff fled in a black sedan and led police on a high-speed chase on East Oak Street and Crystal Lake Road in Lake the Hills.

Duff was ultimately found guilty of the offenses of

  • Home Invasion
  • Criminal Trespass to Residence and
  • Aggravated Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Peace Officer

and is expected to be sentenced on April 9, 2021.

Due to the nature of the charges, Duff will face six to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The case was prosecuted by Kyle Bruett of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
