UPDATE – Route 120 Landmark Apartment Fire

From the McHenry Township Fire Protection District:

McHenry Apartment Fire

McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) was dispatched to the 3300 block of Elm St (Route 120) for an automatic fire alarm.

Fire crews arrived within two minutes to find nothing showing from a three story multifamily apartment building.

Upon investigating the fire alarm a fire was discovered in an apartment on the second floor.

McHenry police officers and MTFPD firefighters evacuated the building while firefighters extinguished the apartment fire.

The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes.

There were no injuries.

MTFPD was assisted by the Crystal Lake FD and Nunda Fire Protection District at the fire scene.

Wonder Lake Fire Protection District provided an ambulance change of quarters as there were other emergency calls throughout the district simultaneously.

The Red Cross was called to assist one resident with housing.

The building is habitable with the exception of the one apartment that the fire originated in.

Fire damage is estimated to be around $10,000.

The fire is under investigation by the MTFPD fire investigations team.

The fire is not suspicious in nature.

  1. Pizza is really good there at the fox hole, however the apartments themselves are full of ne’er-do-wells.

  3. You get a lot of garden variety drunks living over bars too.

    A lot of times they don’t have a DL, and they want to be close to the most essential place of business.

    That’s the way it seems to work in Harvard anyways.
