McConchie Bemoans Gimmicks Pritzker Using to Balance Budget

From State Senator Dan McConchie:

Pritzker Relies on Budget Gimmicks and Back Door Tax Hikes on Businesses to Fund FY22 Budget

Last week, Gov. Pritzker presented his Fiscal Year 2022 budget blueprint that ignores the hard work of reform necessary to get our fiscal house in order.

The proposal relies on nearly $1 billion in new taxes on our businesses that are not currently in state law.

If this tax increase and other budget gimmicks aren’t accepted by the General Assembly, Pritzker’s budget is $1.7 billion out of balance while ignoring the reforms so desperately needed.

Here’s a couple huge issues with the Governor’s budget proposal:

  • It diverts $152 million in taxes supposed to be forwarded to our local governments to fund things like police officers, public works projects and other local services.
  • It steals approximately $272 million designated for roads, bridges and other infrastructure improvements – despite the Governor saying in his speech, “Right now it’s more important than ever to invest in, create, and support good paying jobs, which is why we amped up the rebuilding and renewal of our transportation infrastructure.”

But it is the Illinois business community that will be hit the hardest if the Pritzker revenue plan is approved. The Governor recommends walking back previously negotiated tax incentives that help create new jobs, and eliminating the bipartisan-negotiated Blue Collar Jobs Act of 2019.

But don’t take my word for it. From the Chicago Tribune:

“When you look at what other states are doing, reducing taxes, reducing regulations, Illinois is going in the opposite direction.” – Mark Denzler, president and CEO of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association.

“The governor needs to realize that he’s not just competing against Missouri, Indiana and Wisconsin for jobs. He’s competing against the entire United States.” –  Bradley Migdal, industrial site selection expert at Cushman & Wakefield.

It is my sincere hope that the governor will rethink this proposal and work with the legislature to come up with a plan that will actually move our state forward.

  1. I had high hopes for Sen. McConchie.

My hopes were dashed a year ago.

Is this the best he can do?

  2. Senator McConchie,

Do you have any positive suggestions on how to sole Illinois Financial Problems or are you going to continue to be a do nothing critic like David McSweeney?

  3. McConchie is one of those people who talk big but wimp out every time.

A perfect cuckservative afraid of his own shadow.

  4. Michael, McSweeney actually did a few things.

    And McSweeney couldn’t be bought.

He called Pam Althoff “a complete harridan who idolized herself.”

That alone puts him ahead of plasticine puppet McConchie.

  5. He’s do nothing.

Mostly just a pain in the behind.

    Completely irrelevant.

The only time he makes news is when he attacks his own voters.

McHenry County would probably be better represented by one of the communists in the Democrat party.

At least they would bring back a little more pork.

  6. “the bill that allowed townships to be abolished”

    That was McSweeney’s.

  7. McConchie is a cuckservative. Some call him a trifling cuckservative.

  8. Met him at some events, he seemed OK.

But he’s not the poster boy of Draining the Swamp.

Plus he’s grown comfortable in his do nothing senate post playing Chicken Little and clucking non-effectually.
