Message of the Day – Cancel Culture

From the Las Vegas Review-Journal editorial cartoonist Michael Ramirez comes this all to appropriate Dr. Seuss-inspired ditty:

How long must we wait until the pro-abortionists decided to cancel “Horton Hears a Who”?

“Horton Hears a Who” is a book that values all life. Could it be a commentary on abortion?

And if the Pro-Choice folks don’t like the book, that would mean the musical called “The Seussical,” of which my son memorized every word and sang along with the cast at the Woodstock Opera House performance , would have to go, too.

  1. Can someone provide a definition of “cancel culture” ?

  2. So, the owners of the Seuss catalog decided to no longer print 6 books that have blatantly racist imagery and language, and you think that is cancel culture?

Also, I find it interesting that you compare racism to a book (Horton Hears a Who) that isn’t even about abortion (or birth) to make a non-sequitur about abortion.

Do you think that racism and anti-abortion views are equatable?

  3. Perhaps the reverse.

Margaret Sanger, founder of the organization that became Planned Parenthoo, was certainly a racist.

  4. AlabamaShake – Of course it is crazy and insane that anyone would be outraged over the owners of books deciding to discontinue 6 books that contain racist imagery.

I mean, who in their right mind would really take issue with the owner of a book deciding to stop publishing the book?

    That’s insane!

But this is what happens when Tucker Carlson, Glen Beck, Ben Shapiro, etc all lie about how the “radical left” has canceled Dr. Seuss.

I’m guessing most people who tune into Fox News actually believe that you can’t buy Dr. Seuss books anymore.

It’s crazy but what else are they supposed to talk about?

Tucker ran segment after segment claiming the 1/6 people who stormed the capitol were not in fact Trump supporting extremists who thought the election was stolen.

Was Fox and Tucker really supposed to cover the Republican Trump-appointed FBI Director Christopher Wrey’s sworn Congressional testimony stating there Tucker’s assertions were baseless?

Fox had to talk and push something.

They couldn’t cover the sworn testimony contracting the lies they pushed over the past two months.

  5. I’m not sure what you’re providing examples of, but that doesn’t seem to be relevant to how the Dr. Seuss situation is not an example of cancel culture.

In fact, the Dr. Seuss example of a private business/trust making a decision to no longer sell/publish something that they own. I didn’t know that y’all were so interested in stopping private entities from making decisions about their own products.

  6. I believe publishers should publish the works of Osama Bin Laden, Joseph Stalin, and Adolf Hitler, so I guess it’s more of a philosophical disagreement.

  7. Yes, Cal, you’re on to something.

Many Christians are egalitarians in relation to race and they are pro-life.

Many people in the alt-right however love abortion for the explicit purpose of it exterminates more black people and poor people.

The former group is pejoratively called “Christcucks” by the latter group — many of whom are atheists and neo-pagans.

The eugenics movement, which included abortion, had a lot of white supremacists.

  8. What about books written by Barak Hussein Obama. Anything offensive or maybe dangerous to pollute the minds of children or gullible adults?

  9. LOL Alabama is such a moron. You can’t possibly be THAT naive!😂

  10. Mr Potato Head to Mr Coffee – You’re next!

Is it ok to play pool?

The white ball is knocking all the colored balls around!

  11. Yes, that’s right, bred winner.

We should NOT ban books by Barack Hussein Obama.

I’m not in the business of trying to ban people I might disagree with.

    Are you?

If so, you might want to rethink how that’s going to work out for someone like you in a state like Illinois…

You know that BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA is from Illinois, right?

Of course you can have standards for CHILDREN!

We’ve had rating systems for music, video games, and movies for a long time.

  12. A question was asked whether books by Obama had any offensive or dangerous to children and the gullible. A question, not a statement saying there was offensive or dangerous material. Nothing was said about banning books.

  13. I don’t know. It’s a weird suggestion for you to make, bred winner. I could ask you if you’ve ever tortured animals. It’s just a question. It’s not a statement.

You could always try reading Obama’s books or listening to the audio books if you’re curious what’s in them. If you’re expecting people on this blog to summarize books written by Barack Obama, you’re in the wrong place. We’re more of a Dr. Seuss type of crowd.

I have not read books by Obama. Nope, nope, nope
Not ‘Dreams from my Father’ or ‘The Audacity of Hope’

  14. Cancel Culture explained by Tulsi Gabbard March 9, 2021

Tulsi served as a US Representative for 8 years for the 2nd district of Hawaii

“When you look at the foundation of our democracy, it is based on this ideal, this principle of freedom. Freedom of speech. Freedom for every single one of us to be able to share our ideas and debate them. To argue them. To agree or to disagree. To pick and choose in this marketplace of ideas those that we deem to be right or wrong. To be superior or inferior. And even for those ideas that may be misleading or dangerous.

In this free marketplace, we have the right to then defeat those ideas with superior ones and others have the freedom to choose what they want to believe or not believe. Or what they want to adhere to.

So when you look at this question, what is Cancel Culture. Cancel Culture is the opposite of this foundational principle of our democracy. It means that in a Cancel Culture, you have some people who believe that they are special, that they are superior, that they have the power to be able to shut down those who have ideas or views that are different who may follow a path that they deem to be the wrong path and they will therefore place obstacles in front of you. We’re going to silent certain voices so that only those who agree with us and the path that we deem to be right is the one that is before you to choose.

Where does this path of Cancel Culture lead us? You see the final expression of Cancel Culture in Islamist terrorist groups like ISIS and Alqueida who basically go and behead those who they deem to be infidels or heretics in order to silence them in order to protect others from being misled by the heretical ideas in the eyes of ISIS or Alqueida. So when we look at Cancel Culture here at home we see those efforts to cancel or silence those that they don’t want the people to hear from. Those who may offer a different idea then those in power that they want people to see, hear or be exposed to.”
