Ness Introduces Legislation to Lower Out-of-Pocket Cost of Insulin

Aims to Create Affordable Prescription Drug Prices for All

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – To increase access to affordable and accessible healthcare for middle-class families, state Rep. Suzanne Ness, D-Crystal Lake, introduced legislation that caps insulin prices that are covered by insurance at $30.

“No person should have to decide between putting food on the table and purchasing their lifesaving medicine,” said Ness.

“Diabetes is a manageable disease when people have access to insulin, and the prices of this essential medication should not stand in the way of anyone’s quality of life.”

Ness introduced House Bill 3403 to require insurance providers to cover part of the cost of insulin prices so that patients will not have to pay more than $30 for a 30 day supply.

Currently in Illinois, the price of insulin per month has a cap at $100.

Ness is committed to finding solutions that lower the cost of healthcare for middle-class families, including lowering the cost of vital prescription drugs.

“This past year we have seen how essential affordable and accessible healthcare is to keep our communities and individuals healthy,” continued Ness.

“We have an obligation to every resident across the state to continue developing solutions so that anyone who is managing a chronic  illness can also receive the essential medical care they need to survive.”
