Catherine Schultz, R.I.P.

When I started in the old Courthouse as McHenry County Treasurer in 1966, I sometimes had questions that involved the County Clerk’s Office.

I soon discovered that the young woman named Kathie Schultz would have the answer.

She had been hired right out of high school and had been in the office for about six years when I got there.

When Vernon Kays retired, she because Chief Deputy Clerk under Rosemary Azzaro, starting in 1978.

And, when Azzaro retired in 1990, Schultz was elected County Clerk, where she served until she retired in 2014.

Kathie Schultz explains how the primary election recount requested by Andy Zinke would take place.

Her husband Don died in 2011 after fifty-one years of marriage.

In 2013, she married the former CEO of Centegra, Paul Laudick.

Paul Laudick and Kathie Schultz on the day they announced their engagement.

McHenry County Blog broke the story.

The next year Schultz retired.

Kathie loved jewelry.

The estate jewelry Studio 2015 was a favorite destination.

Kathie and I had something in common. We both lost daughters. Hers was murdered; mine kidnapped.

When the Northwest Herald sued me for writing that the company had received a low interest loan from the County to build their new office building (my father, who was on the County Board told me about it over the kitchen table), she helped me find the documentation in her office records.

And, unlike her successor, Kathie allowed people to take pictures in her office.

Sign announced by Count Board at Kathie Shultz’ retirement.

Former McHenry County Auditor and State Senator Jack Schaffer remembered,

I first meet Kathie in 1968  when I  was elected county auditor .

She was very helpful to a new, green as grass, auditor.

We became  good friends for life.

She when on to become one of the most  honest  and dedicated in the history of our  county.

  1. “Kathie and I had something in common. We both lost daughters. Hers was murdered; mine kidnapped.”

Stop hitting me in the feelz!

  2. She was utterly corrupt. And a tool of Al Jourdan.

Maybe a confession of her electoral corruption will he found in her effects.

  3. MsTrumpion, put a sock in your disrespectful, inappropriate mouth!

Do us all a favor and find a “FILTER!”

  4. Kathie, was a true professional who was in charge of the election recount for Prim vs Zinke that held our community in suspense.

She was respectful of everyone there to monitor the outcome.

A great loss for her family and our community.

  5. Dala, you on crack?

Schultz ‘made sure’ the elections under her watch always came out the way her controller, Fat Al Jourdan, ordered.

If you were a conservative, forget it.

She’s the one who put up Mary McClellan to replace her and made phone calls for he against Tirio.

I should know, I got one.

I regret her daughter was murdered, and appreciate what a terrible toll it must have taken on her.

The MSM did the same thing with Biden, he lost a son to cancer and his wife and daughter were killed in a car wreck.

Yes it’s tragic, but that doesn’t make up for his terrible political career or policies.

  6. She put McClusterfuch up?

That tells me all I need to know about her judgement.

Yes we all know she was an Al Jourdan “republican” shill and friend of crooked Nygren/Zinke.

God was smiling on this county when Prim won!

That wouldn’t have been Schultz’ pick.

  7. Unfortunately her big bucks spouse, the guy that migrant Centegra for so long, will be getting her huge pension.

She bragged she was moving to a gigantic spread in AZ, did she?

  8. What makes you think Kathie had anything to do with recruiting McClellan?

I saw no evidence of that.

  9. McClellan was Kathie’s choice after Mrs Fitzgerald, her loyal lieutenant declined.

Ask Mrs Fitzgerald if you need proof.

Mrs. Fitzgerald was the competent one in that office.

    Not Kathie or Proud Mary.

Yes, Cal, it was Kathie Schultz who paved the way for her!

But that’s just one of Kathie’s many blunders and felonies.

  10. This is one of the whackiest threads ever on this blog.

    Keep going.

  11. Any of you clowns preceding talking crap about Kathy don’t have a clue what the hell you’re talking about.

    Get a life losers.

  12. Cal, I could be wrong but might this need an edit, “Her husband Don died in 2011 after fifty-one days of marriage”?

I don’t believe in glorifying the deceased just because they’ve passed but wouldn’t it be the proper protocol to refrain from disrespect and displays of hate for, oh 5 days.

Longer if one wanted to take the high road.

  13. Sorry for the typo.

I did the subtraction, but obviously transposed the time element in my mind.

  14. I don’t believe in sugarcoating things. Kathie was no good. Maybe she repented. Did she?

  15. DALA is not correct.

Those are two different posters and I know them both.

  16. Batman for President

There now this makes as much sense as the rest of the inane comments
