UPDATE: Dems Don’t Like Chairman Mike Buehler’s Pick, John Collins, to Replace Suzanne Ness on County Board

McHenry County Board Chairman Mike Buehler, a Republican, was charged by state law to select a replacement for State Rep. Suzanne Ness who belonged to the same party she did, that is, a Democrat.

Ness had made it clear that she wanted a woman appointed, although did not, as far as I know, name a specific person.

McHenry County Chair Kristina Zahorik recommended appointing a man, Tom Pavelko.

John Collins

After interviewing six applicants, Buehler nominated John Collins.

None of the seven Democrats on the County Board voted to ratify Buehler’s selection to take the vacant eight spot.

I asked Carolyn Schofield, who participated in interviewing the applicants, if any of the Democratic Party Board members mentioned who they would have preferred that Buehler nominate.

No they did not mention any other names specifically during the Board meeting and they have said different things.

Some have said they wanted Mike to appoint Zahorik’s pick who was Tom Pavelko and others said they wanted a woman as that is what Suzanne had requested.

In my opinion they just didn’t want Mike’s pick.

Also Jessica Phillips said it was because she wasn’t involved in the process.

For one she is new to the Board and no new Board member was involved in either appointment process, and two it would not have mattered as she doesn’t get a vote during the interviews.

It is the Chairman’s appointment.

John Collin’s was a great candidate and had a fantastic interview. Even if he wan’t their top pick, the process is not to get each individuals top choice, it is to vote “yes” or “no” to the candidate that the Chair brings forward.

I think that vote sent a clear message that they are not about what is best for McHenry County, they are only going to play partisan politics.

She added,

Carolyn Schofield

The process the Chairman used was the most inclusive of any board chair I have served under (which is 4 different ones now).

He invited both members from the district as well as the party.

He also invited the County Party Chair who in this case declined the invitation.

Of the six people we interviewed only 3 of them were even aware that the Democrat Party was conducting a separate interview process that was held prior to the County Board even declaring a vacancy.

While all of the six that interviewed were qualified Democrats to apply for the vacancy, only 2 were even interviewed by the Democrat Party.

Their process lacked inclusion and transparency.

UPDATE: Dems Don’t Like Chairman Mike Buehler’s Pick, John Collins, to Replace Suzanne Ness on County Board — 19 Comments

  1. When Jack Franks ignored the local GOP’s pick the Republicans howled about it.

Now the shoe is on the other foot.

Just because someone has the power to do something doesn’t mean they should do it.

Although it is the “Chairman’s pick” he would be wise to give both the outgoing member and the party of that member a lot of consideration.

When it comes to filling vacancies for State General Assembly, the county party chairs do it by weighted vote.

  2. BecauseScience isn’t wrong.

It goes to show that Republicans are willing to be “nice” and “compromise” while Democrats just vote the party line.

Most Republicans voted for Franks’ picks.

Zero Democrats voted for Buehler’s pick.

To understand Democratic politicians, one must understand BUG HIVES — especially bees, ants, and termites.

    Only groupthink is allowed.

To understand Republican politicians, you’d have to understand mental institutions or prisons.

They’re all in the same facility but they are drastically different from one another and some of them hate each other.

  3. Correcting: I would say that the hive mentality works both ways.

There is no better example right now of a hive mentality than all of the Republicans who are saying they will refuse getting vaccinated (49% of Republican men vs 6% of Democratic men in one poll).

This is despite the fact that vaccinations have absolutely nothing to do with party politics or ideologies.

Lemmings might be a more apt analogy.

You know what happens to them.

  4. Elections have consequences.

Democratic snowflakes need to suck it up.

  5. If I was John Collins and got shunned by every Democrat I would tell all them don’t come knocking on my door for a vote!

I might even come out and say the county should keep the ICE contract just to throw it in their faces.

There are Dems out there that want legal immigration.

Jack would have picked whoever he thought would make a deal and be easy to control.

  6. Did Old Leather Face herself, Evertsen, tell Mike to make this pick??

  7. Also don’t be fooled with Fatso McLong Beard being the “chairman” of the McHenry County Republicans.

He has as much involvement/genuine leadership with them as I do with my third ex-wife…

  8. Correcting is correct in the previous post, “They’re telling you to wear a mask after you get the vaccine.

They’re telling you you’ll have to take yearly boosters.

They’re telling you the vaccine won’t keep you from contracting or spreading the virus.

They’re telling you to still social distance and be in small groups if you have the vaccine.

Obviously this is not about health”… or because of science.

    “It’s about control.”

  9. enlightened: You should look at the exchange yesterday between Rand Paul and Dr Fuachi.

Dr. Fauchi is saying that we don’t know much yet about these new variants.

People in South Africa who have already had the wild form have gone on to contract the variant with no protection having been gained from having been infected previously with the wild form.

Vaccines may or may not work against the all of the variants.

So the goal now is to keep the variants from becomming the dominant form, and we do that by continuing the mask wearing and distancing even after we have been vaccinated.

And yes, we will need repeat vaccinations probably every year just like with the flu.

    That’s the deal unfortunately.

    Deal with it.

  10. BecauseScience makes no sense in his arguments, as is often the case.

He claims that 49% of Republicans refusing the vaccine is an example of a hive mentality, when in fact it’s a textbook example of diversity of views.

The fact that only 6% of Democrats will refuse the vaccine is a much better example of a hive mentality.

Groupthink can be right, or it can be wrong, but it does not tolerate dissent.

BTW, the name is spelled “Fauci”.”

  11. The 2024 election could be a romp for Democrats because half of the GOP voters will be dead.

So don’t get vaccinated and continue to have large maskless political balls.

    Go for it!

  12. Per CBS News:

“A recent CBS News poll found 34% of Republicans say they will not be vaccinated against the coronavirus. Independents aren’t too far behind, with 30% refusing the shots, while only 10% of Democrats say they’ll abstain.”

So, maybe 90 percent of Democrats polled will take the vaccine. The vaccines developed in 2020 during the Trump Administration.

The vaccines were developed in record time by drug companies who were encouraged to fast-track research per the Trump Administration’s, “Operation Warp Speed” in 2020.
Many times on left wing news media tv, liberals and Democrats said it would take up to 5 years to develop the vaccine. How terribly wrong they were. They laughed and criticized Trump when during the year of 2020, he said that the vaccine would probably be ready by the end of 2020.

Back in 2020, Kamelia Harris said she would not take a vaccine if it were available. She lied. She took it. Incidentally, Biden recently referred to Kamelia as President Harris. Back in December of 2020, Biden referred to her as President-Elect Harris. Something is cooking behind the scenes at the whitehouse by the Biden stooges and handlers.

  13. Tom Pavelko is intelligent, has a calm judicial demeanor, not swayed by politics, and is a complete gentleman.

You couldn’t ask for a better candidate.

  14. bred: I doubt very much that Trump, who could barely read and spent his days watching Fox News, tweeting childish insults, and playing golf, had much to do with the vaccine development.

It was ready so fast as a result of 20 years of research on new methods which happened to culminate just as the pandemic arose.

However, if it will get former Trumpers to get vaccinated so they don’t serve as petri dishes for the development of new and even worse variants, I will agree to call it the “Trump Vaccine”.

Now get out there and get your shots.

  15. Because is a total fool.

    Vaccines have legal definitions.

First they must initiated host immunity.

Second, they must break the transmissibility chain.

These Covid cocktail vaxxes do neither.

Read the small print on you pre-inoculation release.

    “NOT APPROVED BY THE FDA.”

    Weird isn’t it?

    Get vaxxed in 2021.

Get weird blood cancers by 2027.

“Pregnant people who choose to receive COVID-19 vaccine are encouraged to enroll in v-safe. A v-safe pregnancy registry has been established to follow outcomes among pregnant people who are vaccinated. Based on self-reported information, no specific safety signals have been observed among pregnant vaccine recipients included in the v-safe registry. However longitudinal follow-up is needed to fully evaluate pregnancy and birth outcomes.”

    https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/covid-19/info-by-product/clinical-considerations.html#underlying-conditions

What’s this ‘pregnant people’ bs anyway.

Has psychotic transgenderism even infected the CDC!!!???

    You’ve been warned.

I don’t put weird shit in my veins.

But by all means, I hope you do!
