Incumbent Dundee Township Supervisor Takes Shots at Opponent’s Job

Trish Glees

But it may be incumbent Trish Glees, the Democrat seeking reelection to a 2nd term, who has more to answer for about her own business based in Dundee Township for the past four years

Late Sunday, March 14, Dundee Township Supervisor Trish Glees, who’s running for reelection as a Democrat after winning election as an independent in 2017, posted this lengthy post on her campaign’s Facebook page about her opponent, Arin Thrower (I, West Dundee).

“My opponent has a fulltime job as the Director of Communications for Lake County, IL. The Lake county offices are located in Wauconda, which is at least an hour drive from Dundee Township. So far, she has refused to state definitively whether or not she will leave that job if she is elected but has implied that she will not. Setting aside the fact that if she tries to keep both jobs that she will be double-dipping taxpayer dollars in salaries and in pensions, she will not be able to do both jobs well since the office of Dundee Township Supervisor is also a full-time position.

“As executive officer of the Township, the Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Township departments including the Cemetery, Open Space, and the administration of General Assistance. The Supervisor is also the Chairperson of the Township Board of Trustees, and a full voting member of the Board. She is also the Treasurer for all Township funds, including as the ex-officio Treasurer of the Road and Bridge funds.

“The Supervisor also acts as a caseworker, handling general and emergency assistance cases; providing guidance and a listening ear to our residents who are in crisis and attends meetings of entities whose work is relevant to the Township such as the Ride in Kane, the RTA Advisory Board and the 708 Mental Health board.

“In addition to all of that, the Supervisor is also often called on to help the Township’s Food Pantry volunteers picking up donations from our local grocery store partners and helping fill boxes and bags and handing them out via the curbside service and delivering them to some of our seniors and disabled residents who cannot come to the Township offices to pick up their food. I also make time to write our monthly newsletters and maintain our website and other social media.

“This job is an important one to the people of Dundee Township whom we serve. People depend on us to be there when they need help. We serve the people in their time of need. This is not a frivolous job. And while we do have knowledgeable and experienced employees and volunteers working for us, the job of Supervisor is not one that you can phone in or leave to someone else. It needs the Supervisor’s full attention. The people of Dundee Township deserve a straight answer from my [opponent] regarding her intentions.”

Arin Thrower

So, 3 1/2 weeks from Election Day, Supervisor Glees felt she had to give a lengthy description of what her job as the Dundee Township supervisor consists, while demanding her opponent Thrower give a “straight answer” concerning what she will do if elected.

At last week’s Elgin Area League of Women Voters candidates forum, Trustee Sue Harney, running as a Democrat for a 2nd term as trustee and served 4 terms as supervisor prior, repeated Glees’ talking points during her closing statement at the LWV forum concerning Thrower’s Lake County job.

McHenry County Blog reached out to Arin Thrower’s campaign for their statement to Glees’ March 14 campaign Facebook, but thus far, has not received a response, and no answer on Thrower’s campaign Facebook page or website.

So what promulgated this talk about Thrower’s Lake County job?

Well, it could be traced to this question asked on Glees’ campaign Facebook page to an older (early January) post by Mike Danahey, a former reporter for the Chicago Tribune and Elgin Courier-News who’s now self-employed through his MDanahey Communications.

The post was submitted Saturday night, March 13:

Within minutes, Glees responded to Danahey’s question:

T.G. Consultants and its involvement with Dundee Township during Glees’ term, has come up before, and with her work force breakdown between her hours at Dundee Township and her T.G. Consultants, here is the reference to T.G. Consultants from the IL secretary of state’s office:

With the help of several sources, McHenry County Blog has pieced together the full story of T.G. Consultants, Inc. and its involvement in the business of Dundee Township for the past four years.

I’ll share this tomorrow in an article township voters must read in order to learn fully what is at stake in the Dundee Township election not only for supervisor, but also for trustees.

But for now, Glees’ Economic Interests Statement (EIS) is worth a read for the years she has been in office and available for public viewing.

Elected officials are required by law to file an EIS with their county clerk every year.

Here are links to Glees’ EIS on file, and like property taxes, are filed a year in arrears:

Glees’ 2020 EIS, due this year, has not been posted to the Kane County clerk’s website.

Incumbent Dundee Township Supervisor Takes Shots at Opponent’s Job — 5 Comments

  1. The only job that a Township Supervisor has is to do the following:

    (1) Distribute however many interim assistant checks are applied for in the township. For AL township this is around 30 per YEAR so less than one a week. This is done in the larger population townships with the help of an assistant of some sort who does a preliminary interview of the applicant and does all of the paperwork. Total Supervisor time per application with an assistant is maybe 15 minutes, without one maybe an hour.

    (2) Maintain township cememteries. These are small 19th century plots of land in which very few, if any, new people are being buried and which only really require that the lawn be mowed which is done by a landscaping company hired by the township.

    (3) Sign the paychecks for the Road District employees twice a month. These are often generated by a payroll company so all the Supervisor does is sign the checks.

    (4) Chair a monthly meeting of a do nothing Board using a pre-programed agenda. Such meetings are usually over in 30 minutes.

    Thats IT!

So someone could easily do that job on the way to commute to her real job.

Anyone know the salary of the Dundee Township Supervisor?

  2. Talk about township B.S.

I’ve never seen such a padded resume in 30 years of my business life!

Township supervisor is a part-time job at best and usually actually less.

What a laugh townships have on the taxpayers who are obviously too ignorant of facts to know enough to eliminate them!

Cal, can you publish the salary?

  3. This Glees woman is a taxpayer pest.

    Throw her enormous butt out.
