McHenry Township Road District Consolidation Referendum Being Fought in NWH Letters to the Editor Page

As readers probably have surmised, if those who write Letters to the Editor of the Northwest Herald give me permission to post their content here, I am willing to do so.

Doesn’t matter what side of the issue they support.

I just need their contents to be put in an email. (Meaning, I’m not going to re-type them.)

Here is one favoring the local tabloid would not publish because another one was sent March 5th. It favors putting the McHenry Township Road District under the jurisdiction of the new Township Board from Judy Anderson:

Eliminating McHenry Township Road District provides oversight)

“There’s a joke township insiders tell: What’s the difference between God and the highway commissioner?  The highway commissioner has a free truck.

The sentiment is that they are too powerful under current law, free to spend money and set budgets with little oversight, untouchable in their autonomy –  world where it’s their way or the highway.”  (NW Herald, 5/16/2018)

Sometimes humor is elusive.

McHenry Township Road District has a budget of three million dollars.

The current road commissioner has total control of those funds with no board oversight.

Do you know of any other government entity where one person has total control of three million dollars?

Even school superintendents must report to a school board.

The job of the road commissioner is basically a part time job.

It’s actually the crew foreman who does the heavy lifting.

On April 6th, voters will have the opportunity to remedy this ridiculous situation by voting YES to consolidate the McHenry Township Road District into the Township of McHenry, thereby giving the McHenry Township answer to a board when it comes to the spending of public money.

It would allow a five-man elected township board oversight into how this three million dollars is spent.

This will also eliminate one taxing body from Illinois overburdened taxpayers.

Don’t let them scare you.  Contrary to what the township road signs say, your township roads will be maintained, and at less cost.

  1. No one with a brain reads the NWH, muchless read the inane rantings on letters to the editor.

    Amusing at best

  2. THe actual quote is:

“What is the difference between a Township Road Commissioner and God?

One of them has a truck.”

  3. GladPaul Revere hasn’t totally lost his sense of humor.

    BecauseScience, you’re right…much better wording.

  4. “The current road commissioner has total control of those funds with no board oversight.”

She must not talk to her township board member husband much who has proved the township board does have oversight, or listen to Condon whining about her husbands cutting his budget and wages way to low.

People who lie are not creditable lip service.

  5. The Northworst Herald, as dishonest as the day is long.™

  6. No oversight?

The board cut the salary of the highway commissioner, cut the road budget, cut the road levy.

    So what’s her issue?

Or her husband’s issue (we know he wrote the letter, after all)?
