Tirio Reacts to Dems’ New Election Law Changes

Yesterday, McHenry County Blog published Governor JB Pritzker’s press release about election law mandates that took effect upon signing for the April 6th and subsequent elections.

Asking County Clerk Joe Tirio how he was going to react yield the following reply and press release:

Our one permanent drop box will be open starting at 9:00 AM today

Joe Tirio

Woodstock, IL – Following Governor Pritzker’s signing of HB1871, McHenry County Clerk’s Office opens their drop box for the April 6th Election.

“We’re excited to see that the Governor signed the bill into law, and look forward to adding this option for our voters”, said McHenry County Clerk and Recorder, Joe Tirio.

“During the November 2020 election, we had taken great pains to install a secure, yet accessible drop box for those that want to use a vote by mail ballot, but don’t want to return it to us via the mail.”

The drop box is located in the parking lot of the County Administration Building at 667 Ware Rd, Woodstock and is available 24 hours a day through 7:00 PM on April 6th, Election Day.

While no postage is needed to use the drop box, it is very important that voters still put their ballot in the provided certification envelope and that the certification envelope is signed.

“Without the ballot being in the signed certification envelope, we simply cannot cast that ballot, “ said Tirio.

Clerk Tirio reminds us that early voting is still available through the 5th and that Tuesday the 6th is Election Day. Polls will be open Tuesday from 6:00 AM until 7:00 PM. More information can be found at McHenryCountyClerk.com.

  1. “Obey Dems’ New Election Law Changes”

Come on Cal… you were a legislator.

You know the difference between “may” and “shall” in a law.

The only allows election authorities do do drop boxes and curbside voting.

    It does not mandate them.

So therefore there is no “obey” involved here.

  2. Note… this still doesn’t make sense from the other post: From Governor JB Pritzker, who obviously has never been in local government:
