Second term trustee leads his running mates defeating 2 incumbent trustees for control of village board
The open seat election for village president of Barrington Hills between Village Trustee Brian Cecola and Barrington Hills Park District President Dennis Kelly was easily won by Cecola, according to unofficial returns from all 4 counties, with updates through Monday afternoon April 12:
Barrington Hills President: | McHenry | Kane | Lake | Cook | Total | % of vote
x | Brian Cecola | 146 | 6 | 98 | 286 | 536 | 60.4% |
Dennis Kelly | 111 | 5 | 65 | 170 | 351 | 39.6% |
Cecola’s supermajority victory over Kelly means the 2nd term trustee will succeed Village President Martin McLaughlin, who has also been serving as the state representative for the 52nd district since January 13, next month.
Cecola was the head of the One Barrington Hills slate of candidates, and his running mates easily won election for the 3 trustee spots on the village board, defeating two incumbents (the 3rd incumbent trustee chose not to seek reelection):
Barrington Hills Trustee (3) | McHenry | Kane | Lake | Cook | Total
x | David Riff | 125 | 6 | 84 | 236 | 451 |
x | Thomas W. Strauss | 118 | 7 | 84 | 224 | 433 |
x | Laura S. Ekstrom | 141 | 6 | 83 | 246 | 476 |
Robert M. Zubak (i) | 107 | 5 | 65 | 194 | 371
Brent Joseph Burval | 116 | 5 | 59 | 172 | 352
Paula Jacobsen (i) | 115 | 7 | 67 | 208 | 397 |
The newly minted village president-elect will have the opportunity to cement his control over the village board, as he will appoint his replacement as trustee, with advice and consent of the 5 trustees, to serve-out his unexpired term, thus potentially giving Cecola a supermajority control over the village board.
