Teacher Unions Financing Campaigns of School Board Members with Whom They Negotiate Teacher Salaries

Of course having teachers select those with whom their union negotiates their contracts is a conflict of interest of massive proportions, but who wouldn’t want to be on both sides of the bargaining table?

And it is completely legal to have no one representing taxpayers and parents.

Let’s look at the financing of the winners in Crystal Lake Grade School Board.

Individual contributions of less than $150.01 reported by the Illinois PAC for Education (IPACE) totaled $1,241,440.49.

A direct contribution was made to

  • College of DuPage Faculty Assn PAC – $25,000 and for
  • Support The Successful Passage Of The 1997 District 200 Referedum (sic) For Wheaton & Warrenville School – $50,000

Expenditures of $325,489.32 (including the $50,000 above), mainly called “rebates,” can be viewed here.

What unions in local school districts received follows:

  • Crystal Lake Elementary Teachers Association – $4,815
  • Huntley Education Association – $4,134

In addition, $24,485.54 was spend for “grassroots development.”

  1. So which candidates got money?

Without names, this is a worthless posting.

  2. You are shocked that an organization regulated by it dealing with government uses campaign money to influence elections and politicians?

You do know that six different congressional committees regulate the banking and financial sector?

That is not because of the volume of work, but the need for ways to trade influence for money.

This is Citizens United (2010) and Buckley v Valeo (1976) at work.

  3. Teachers Unions should be abolished, as should all public sector unions, including the police.
