Looters who stormed several local businesses and damaged police cars last summer are facing serious financial and legal consequences for the civil unrest, including restitution of more than $100,000, in cases resolved so far.
For the more than 40 alleged looters, the insistence by judges that defendants pay restitution to businesses and the Bloomington and Normal police departments has added massive potential debt to the long-term consequences of their misconduct.
Which they will NEVER pay!
100 thousand sounds like a lot but divided by 40 people it really isn’t even that much.
You could pay that much for getting a misdemeanor.
Also, in cases of intentional damage or theft — they SHOULD have to pay back more than the value they stole/broke, not just pay back the value of what they stole/broke.
And looting should be a felony or somehow otherwise upgraded theft charge.
Looting is to theft what mob action is to violence.
These people should have to serve time.
Looting shouldn’t be a slap on the wrist. At least force them to do community service.
How about restitution to the county for the prosecution and other court costs?
How about tarring and feathering the Antifa scum?

Looters will claim it’s “restorative justice” for thousands of years of
slavery at the hands of the White man and therefore any fines levied will
be deemed as RACIST.
