Previewing Tonight’s County Board Comment

From Johnsburg’s Carl Kamineski:

Good Evening Board Members, County Chairman, and citizens of
McHenry County.

I am here tonight to talk with you about the ICE detention facility in McHenry County.

Again, I want to lay out the facts that seem to be missing from previous statements voiced by others.

Most of the folks that have come before you and spoken on this topic are
not from McHenry county, they are trying to have you be persuaded that
the ICE contract should be canceled.

The overwhelming majority of detainees that are housed in McHenry County ICE Detention Center have been convicted of criminal offenses NOT related to their immigration status.

These criminal convictions include,

  • murder,
  • sexual assault
  • dangerous drugs
  • weapon offenses
  • battery,
  • burglary
  • arson,
  • kidnapping and
  • robbery

Now some of you that want to vote to remove the ICE contract feel that
this is a moral issue?

I’m just curious where your moral compass stops and starts.

Do you support the genocide of people killing their babies before they are born?

Do you support late term abortions that these disgusting state politicians
passed?

Or how about the moral compass of a person, not a man, that sits on
your County Board.

That being Carlos Acosta!

Carlos Acosta failed to do his job as a DCFS agent resulted in a 5 yr old boy AJ Freund die!

Does your moral compass continue to be silent care about that?

Carlos Acosta was in the jail across the street and never heard one complaint of the way he was treated over there.

Carlos Acosta should have stepped down as another disgraced politician but here he still sits today because of your so-called moral compass.

As elected officials your number one goal is to protect its citizens!

Whether that is an agency paying you money or not! Just because they do help subsidize the cost of housing criminals doesn’t make it somehow twisted into being morally wrong. And just so you know that is what prisons are!

In closing the McHenry County ICE Facility is not only there to protect the citizens of the county but to protect the legal citizens of our country.

Thank you, McHenry County, ICE and all federal and local Law Enforcement for protecting and trying to keep us safe!

Second topic.

Another item on the agenda tonight is the vote on the number of board members and districts for our county board. McHenry County’s population has stayed relatively the same.

I respectfully ask that you keep the same number of representation to your citizens as well as keeping the same districts.

Even if you choose to go with fewer representation I urge you to keep those same districts.

My thought is if it isn’t broke than no need to fix it!

  1. Carl, voters approved of an advisory referendum to shrink the board back in 2016.

    Over 77 percent supported it.

That’s a pretty overwhelming majority. (For reference, it takes 75% of states to ratify an amendment to the U.S. Constitution.)

Those people must have thought something was broken.

Then in 2018, the county board voted on an ordinance to shrink its number of members.

The roll call was 19-3. The three nay votes, in case you are curious, were Hammerand, Skala, and Yensen.

This is supposed to take effect in 2022 (after the census).

I’m not sure you can undo what has been done. At this point, I think they’re just debating how to draw the districts, how many districts there should be, and how many members should be in each district — not the number of overall members which they’ve already decided is going to be fixed at 18.

Can they just go, “Oh, nevermind!”?

I would imagine not if they passed an ordinance, but I’m not a lawyer.

It would make them look like chumps too. That would cause a HUGE backlash politically and probably legally too.

For that same reason — the political ramifications — Republicans who vote to cancel the ICE contract are likely going to be finding themselves out of office next year and will be heckled at events.

    They have been warned.

  2. An April 28, 2021 article in the Daily Herald covered the ICE issue WITH A PICTURE of two McHenry County Board Members holding signs asking for the cancellation of the ICE contract on a city street in McHenry Illinois.

Question: Should these two Board Members RECUSE themselves from the vote on the Resolution tonight? Should the County Board Chairman ask these two Members to recuse themselves?

Below are the words from beneath the photo in the Daily Herald:

“McHenry County Board members Michael Vijuk, left, and Paula Yensen, right, along with Pam Shearman hold signs in favor of canceling the county’s contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement during a rally at the intersection of Front and West Elm streets on April 24, in McHenry. 3. Revenue has been positive, not any burden to McHenry County Citizens. Even if revenue were neutral, no losses no gains, McHenry County Government and Citizens should support U.S. Government efforts via ICE to apprehend and incarcerate those who VIOLATE OUR NATION AND OUR LAWS by sneaking into the US and in addition breaking other laws while being here illegally.

Our Nation has an EXTREMELY POSITIVE and GENEROUS Immigration system that allows/encourages persons from numerous countries from around the world to apply for and get authorization to come to the U.S. as an immigrant. All U.S. Citizens and patriots should support our U.S. Immigration system and should vigorously and lawfully oppose those who would encourage illegal immigration into the U.S. or who would shelter illegal immigrants which is a violation of U.S. Code of Laws. Supporting our Immigration system and its processes includes supporting ICE.

Some U.S. Justice Department Laws on Illegal Aliens

Title 8, U.S.C. § 1324(a) defines several distinct offenses related to aliens. Subsection 1324(a)(1)(i)-(v)
prohibits alien smuggling, domestic transportation of unauthorized aliens, concealing or harboring
unauthorized aliens, encouraging or inducing unauthorized aliens to enter the United States, and
engaging in a conspiracy or aiding and abetting any of the preceding acts. Subsection 1324(a)(2)
prohibits bringing or attempting to bring unauthorized aliens to the United States in any manner
whatsoever, even at a designated port of entry. Subsection 1324(a)(3).

Harboring — Subsection 1324(a)(1)(A)(iii) makes it an offense for any person who — knowing or in
reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States in
violation of law, conceals harbors, or shields from detection, or attempts to conceal, harbor, or shield
from detection, such alien in any place, including any building or any means of transportation

  4. Thank you, Mr. K!!!!!

Where is the local GOP leadership on this?

    Asleep again?

No call for Republican Committeemen/women to attend.

    I never got anything.

  5. Reduce the number of County Board seats.

Anyone who does not think so should give us a list of accomplishments that each member has done while on the board along with the number of years they have served.

    Right..didn’t think so..

  6. Actually the current Board, which is somewhat different from the previous one, is under no obligation to follow the prior Board’s vote on the size of the Board.

It’s a new set of terms and a new Board.

However, they appear poised to do so with the only addition being going to 9 districts.

The district boundaries I have seen seem to make sense

One good effect of having 9 districts is that Sun City no longer in the same district with Alden.

The others appear to be pretty compact and contiguous with no weird shapes.

If Cal can superimpose the addresses of the current Board Members over the proposed maps that could be illuminating.

  7. Couldn’t even walk in the door.

    Good size crowd.

    Took some pics.

    One sign said “f…ck Ice”

Several Police officers from Woodstock and some from McHenry County Sheriff.

    It was a peaceful gathering.

  8. Clearly, Carlos Acosta should resign.

The tax payers are paying the ultimate price for his presence.

  9. FIX YOUR STREAMING SERVICE YOU IDIOTS!

Watching this meeting is like being on dial up.

  10. Streaming is horrible.

Are there any, any IT professionals in McHenry County Government that can give we citizens REAL TIME viewing and hearing of the McHenry County Board Meeting.

Did not use a stop watch, but it seems to be we get 5 seconds of speech video and than 10+ seconds of nothing.

Then 5 seconds of speech and so on.

    Please fix this.

  11. At 10 PM am listening to the 1:08 mark of the Board Chairman look into this?

    Absolutely NUTS.

  12. At 10 PM am listening to the 1:08 mark of the Board Meeting,

Can the Chairman look into this?

    Absolutely NUTS.

  13. bred winner’s 9:32 comment was entirely accurate and if anything a little bit generous!

There were times where it cut out for a long time.

Maybe it was just the traffic?

I don’t know, but please look into that.

This is supposed to be America, not Albania.

  14. Well at least the Illegals did not win this one!

its just gotta burn the sanctuary city politicians… that up here we still believe in the LAW!

  15. Yeah, reduce the number of County Board seats.

Make it even easier for the Democrats to achieve their majority.

Anyone remember who started the campaign to shrink the County Board..?

    Yes.

    That’s right.

    JACK FRANKS.

Because he knew it’s easier to control a County where the people have progressively less and less representation…

  16. Williams, with So many RINOs on the Board, what difference does it make.
