Jacob Keltner Killer’s Fence Arrested in Bloomington for Money Laundering

From the Bloomington Police Department comes this release which concerns murdered McHenry County Sheriff'[s Deputy Jacob Keltner:

Decatur Man Arrested For Laundering Regional Burglary Proceeds

After a lengthy investigation by the Bloomington Police Department, Illinois Department of Revenue and the Illinois Attorney’s General Office, members of the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force working with detectives from the Bloomington Police Department, arrested Joseph D. Laramee, age 59, of Decatur, IL., at his place of business, [Laramee Jewelers] 415 N. Main, Decatur, IL.

Laramee faces the following charges relating his role in a burglary ring that operated across central Illinois in 2018:

  • 1 count of Money Laundering, $100,000 to $500,000 (720 ILCS 5/29B-1(a)(1)(B)(i)), a class 1 felony
  • 1 count of Money Laundering, $10,000 to $100,000 (720 ILCS 5/29B-1(a)(1)(B)(i)), a class 2 felony
  • 8 counts of Unlawful Structuring of a Currency Transaction (205 ILCS 685/7(b)), a class 2 felony
  • 1 count of Fraudulent Filing of Illinois Tax Return, 35 ILCS 5/1301, a class 4 felony

Charges reflected in this case stem from Laramee’s laundering of stolen proceeds from multiple residential burglaries committed in Bloomington, Normal, Champaign and Peoria, Illinois between April 1, 2018, and December 31, 2018.

The primary suspect in the commission of the burglaries is a Springfield man, Floyd Brown, age 42. 

Brown was previously arrested on March 7, 2019, after killing a U.S. Marshal’s fugitive task force member, Deputy Jacob Keltner in Rockford, Illinois.
