Outsiders’ Behavior Led to LITH Beach Restrictions

From the Village of Lake in the Hills:

Lake in the Hills Beach

The Village has implemented new beach regulations to address concerns from residents. Informational signage has been posted to communicate the updates. The following changes are now effective:

  • Beach access will be limited to residents of Lake in the Hills and their guests.
  • Non-residents can only access the beaches when accompanied by a resident of Lake in the Hills as their guest.

Non-lifeguard Village staff will be present during operating hours on Saturdays and Sundays to ensure compliance with beach regulations. As a reminder, boats must be launched only from Turtle Island Park and Nockels Park.

Boaters are reminded that boat permits and lake use permits are required to operate a boat on the lake. Permits can be obtained at Village Hall, located at 600 Harvest Gate.

Please call the Public Works Department at 847-960-7500 with any questions or concerns. During weekends and after 3:00 p.m. on weekdays, please call the Police Department’s non-emergency number at 847-658-5676 for assistance.

“We’ve listened to feedback from our residents and feel these changes will address their concerns,” said Public Works Director Tom Migatz. “We will continue to maintain our beaches for the enjoyment of Village residents and consider opportunities to make operational improvements.”

Informational signage has been posted to communicate the new regulations with visitors.

Additionally, boaters are reminded that they must obtain a Boat Use Permit and either obtain a Lake Use Permit or pay a Daily Lake Use Fee to operate a boat on the lake at any time. Boats are to be launched only from Turtle Island Park and Nockels Park.

Residents may apply for Lake Use and Boat Use Permits or pay Daily Lake Use Fees at the Customer Service Desk at Village Hall, located at 600 Harvest Gate. Daily Lake Use Fees may also be paid at the Police Department, located at 1115 Crystal Lake Road.

“We are grateful to our residents for their patience as we considered changes to our beach regulations,” said Village Administrator Fred Mullard. “Recent incidents have highlighted the need to improve how the beaches are managed. We will continue to monitor beach operations and make adjustments as needed to best serve our residents.”

Community members are encouraged to call the Public Works Department at 847-960-7500 with any questions or concerns related to the operational adjustments. During weekends and after 3:00 p.m. on weekdays, please call the Police Department’s non-emergency phone number at 847-658-5676 for assistance.
