Governor Rod Blagojevich broadened Governor Jim Edgar’s KidsCare to include the children of illegal aliens under his All Kids program.
Now the Democrats and Govenror JB Pritzker have passed legislation to include older illegals at state expense.
As the Chicago Tribune reports in a story focusing on a illegal alien mother who found she had breast cancer,
[Maribel ] Cordero is among 11,000 people in Illinois who would be eligible for Medicaid-like benefits under an extension to a program created last year that was the first in the nation to provide government-subsidized health benefits to seniors living in the U.S. illegally.
The mother of two had not insurance, but, before this program began, she apparently found a hospital willing to provide treatment under its mandated charity care program, a program pretty much mandated if a not-for-profit hospital wants to retain its property tax exemption.
Previous legislation covered only illegals over the age of 65.
It cost, according to the Tribune, follows:
Nearly a year after outreach and enrollment for the initial program in December, nearly 7,000 seniors 65 and older have been enrolled and as of June it has cost the state $60 million, according to data from the Illinois Department of Health Care and Family Services.
With regard to cost, the Tribune reports,
The state allocated $36 million to the program expansion that is expected to begin in May 2022, and the estimated annual cost is $50 million, according to Jamie Munks, spokesperson for the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services.
