Bob Anderson’s Latest Project

From Wonder Lake’s Bob Anderson:

In governments, Texas doesn’t compare to Illinois

A call for action to reduce the size and cost of Illinois’ nation leading 8,918 units of government from the governor and members of the General Assembly.

The government counters at Chicago’s Civic Federation issued a report about Illinois’ plethora of units of local government and their impact on ever-increasing property taxes.

How many local government units does Illinois have?

Does anyone really Know?

How many elected officials do these local government units have?

Does anyone really know?

How does Illinois compare with Texas, the state following Illinois with the most governments?

Texas has 5,343 units, which is 3,580 fewer than Illinois!

Texas taxpayers are taxed for far fewer governments than Illinois taxpayers, even though it has a much larger population and thousands more square miles. Illinois’ population is 12,830,652, whereas Texas has 29,143,505 residents,16,512,853 more than Illinois! There are 57,915 square miles in Illinois, 210,665 fewer than Texas! Note:Texas does not have township governments or township road districts.

If those who are in Springfield were serious about tax-relief, they would take action that would encourage local officials to eliminate or consolidate the state’s excessive government entities.

With the governor and all of the members of the General Assembly up for election in 2022, this is an awesome opportunity to ask this question. What is your plan to reduce the size and cost of Illinois’ nation leading 8,918 units of local government?

  1. Comparing to Texas.

Illinois has 102 counties, Texas has 254.

Maybe our Texas-based commenter D J can verify what most big city property tax payers see.

D J is based in “Big D”, so the typical Dallasite will pay property taxes for the City of Dallas, the Dallas Independent School District, and Dallas County, which includes the county, the community college district (multiple campuses in and around Dallas County), and the community/taxpayer funded hospital, Parkland.

That’s all the units of government D J pays property taxes to.

Unlike Illinois, property taxes are not a year in arrears but bills come out in September and due by end of January for same year.

So D J pays property taxes into 5 units of government.

No township or road district, no park district or library district, forest preserve or fire protection district.

    None of that.

Only bummer D J has is he receives three separate property tax bills from the city, school district and the county.

On my wife’s and my rural property in east Texas, we only receive one tax bill from the county funding the schools, veterans home and the county.

And on top of that, Texas residents don’t pay state income taxes — there isn’t one.

  2. Bob Anderson, the exbarber, needs to check into an Alzheimer’s unit ASAP.

Townships are the best bargain in Illinois and save this State billions.

    Look at your taxbills people.

Townships are but 1 or 2 percent.

Anderson is a modern day Captain Ahab, obsessed with his white whale…. township government.

Ahab led his crew to doom.

  3. Anderson prattles without facts.

He never bothered to look into actual township or township Road Dist. functioning.

He managed to fool idiots like McSweeney or Wilcox, but he never fooled the public which cratered his abolition referenda 4 times.

    Give it a rest Bob.

    Townships will outlive you!

  4. Again Bob doesn’t present the total facts, here are additional:

    https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/articles/2021-02-23/these-states-have-the-highest-property-taxes

    Effective tax rates, #1 New Jersey @ 2.49%, #2 Illinois @ 2.27%

    https://www.governing.com/archive/number-of-governments-by-state.html

Units of government, New Jersey 1338, Illinois 6918

The following states have fewer total units of government, but have higher number of units of gov per 100k population than Illinois.

Co, Ia, Ka, Me, Mn, Mo, Mt, Ne, Nd, Sd, Vt, Wy.

There is no direct correlation between the number of units of government to the actual costs of delivering those same services.

  5. This “person” needs another 15 minutes of “Ego” time.

Aren’t we supposed to humor the insane?

  6. We have many more FAT CATS here ..

they luv them hot dogs …

here like pigs to the trough they come ..

    for the Free MO $$$$

  7. Texas has 4.6 more square miles than Illinois.

    Units of government Illinois 8,918.

    Units Texas 5,343.

If Illinois were to have the same number of government units as Illinois per square mile, it would need to add 35,700 more units on tax bills, for a total of 41,000 units.

  8. Snowplow Bob must have too much time on his hands since he closed his shop.

Comparing Illinois to Texas is funny. Or stupid, take your pick.

Like something a Democrat would do

  9. “If Illinois were to have the same number of government units as Illinois per square mile, it would need to add 35,700 more units on tax bills, for a total of 41,000 units.”

What does this even mean ?

  10. “Barber Bob” has been on his ego trip since sometime in the 1990s or thereabout.

He continues to assert that all townships be abolished and the county takes over, to save money.

It matters not that facts and figures do not lie and would cost MORE $$ to do it his way.

He keeps trying every so often to see if anyone agrees with him, which, by the way, is the definition of insanity.

  11. Klaatu is the wondrous female slug called Evertensen.

She’s the fool who sold her soul to Mr. Scratch.

She presided over a destroyed GOP and helped wreck the party with her township pensioner hubby.

Preston Rea called her a ‘Jonah of the outfield’.

And that makes pretty good sense considering her weird collections of baseball memorabilia and cruise ship bannings.

Evertsen: you sure played the black cat on the MCC Board.

    Talk big but do little.

    Evertsen: hang it up.

Quit blaming everybody for your own incompetence.

  12. Texas has 268,597 square miles
    Illinois has 57,915 square miles

The difference between these numbers is 4.6 square miles, not 210,682 square miles, according to Bob “Captain Ahab” Anderson…

Why anybody would think this kook can be trusted with numbers at this point baffles me.

Hey Ahab, if there is such a direct correlation between effective real-estate tax rate and units of government as you say then then what is up with New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Vermont on the high side (possibly add in Rhode Island as well)? Also Colorado and California on the low side?

Seriously look at this chart https://imageshare.best/image.php?id=90O1X3.png

Illinois’ effective real-estate tax rate per unit of government is 0.0003339%
Texas’ effective real-estate tax rate per unit of government is 0.0008168%
    Not to mention
Rhode Island at 0.0128682% with only 129 units of government
Hawaii at 0.0128571% with only 21 units of government
and District of Columbia at 0.2750000% with only 2 units of government

Also where do you get this made-up 8,918 units of government in Illinois? The link Nob posted and everything I found says there are 6,918 units of government in Illinois.

As usual, Ahab has no issue distorting the truth or outright lying and cheating to push his agenda.

How about we talk about how you, Verr, and Rakestraw violated the open meetings act in the executive session on April 27 2020 by voting to take action in a closed session?

    https://www.mchenrytownship.com/wp-content/uploads/Executive-meeting-minutes-Jan-2020-through-Dec-2020.pdf

Final action (voting) must occur in open session. No final action may be taken at a closed meeting. Final action must be preceded by a public recital of the nature of the matter being considered and other information that will inform the public of the business being conducted.

Hi Dianne! Isn’t it time to quit grafting?

  14. John is exactly correct on my Taxing Jurisdictions.

That aside, when it comes down to it, the promise of Taxation is supposed to be about enhancing your quality of life isn’t it?

I live on a greenbelt on the North Side of Dallas, which boasts 200 hundred restaurants, theatres and various shopping within two miles of my home.

All for the bargain price of (2021 est. tax bill) $1294.87.
