MCAC adds rabies vaccine and microchip clinic for dogs

McHENRY COUNTY β€” Due to the overwhelming response for the dogs-only clinics scheduled for Oct. 20, the McHenry County Animal Control (MCAC) has added another rabies vaccination and microchip clinic for dogs from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27.

Appointments are still available from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13. The Oct. 13 clinic was originally scheduled as a cats-only clinic but is now open to cats and dogs.

This low-cost service is only available to McHenry County residents and an appointment must be made in advance. Registration is open now. To reserve your spot, please call (815) 459-6222.

The cost is $15 for a one-year vaccine and $30 for three years.

Registration fees [TAXES] are additional and vary depending on factors such as whether a pet is spayed or neutered.  Registration is required by law in McHenry County and tags must be purchased for all pets at the time of vaccination. Registration tag pricing is available at http://bit.ly/MCACregistration.

β€œThe best way to protect your four-legged friends from being exposed to rabies is by keeping their rabies vaccination up to date. Effectiveness of a rabies vaccination reduces over time, so keeping your beloved pet vaccinated is the best way to prevent them for getting sick,” said MCAC Director Maryellen Howell.

Microchips will also be available at all clinics. Microchipped dogs are twice as likely to be reunited with their owners if they are lost.

All dogs must be leashed, and all cats must be in a carrier. Please do not bring animals that are in heat. Information about bite history or dogs that are easily stressed will be requested when making an appointment. Owners are responsible for putting a muzzle on any dog that needs one prior to their appointment.

To maintain safety, social distancing will be adhered to and attendees must wear a mask. The clinics will be drive-thru, and payment will be accepted via cash only.
