  1. My next whiz bang Illinois business idea, will be the Maurice Stans School of Accounting.

  2. DJ, what about your idol with feet of clay, the Jackal Franks, with all his many scams?

  3. Can funds be used from an election account for private use?

  4. Pretty much.

Consider Jack Franks’ and Mike Madigan’s use of campaign funds to pay legal bills.

  5. Cynthia, no, you technically cannot use campaign account funds to pay election expenses.

To Cal’s point, the statute allows for campaign funds to be used on legal expenses, but it is a gray area on what those legal expenses have to be for.

This is being challenged in court right now, and the state Supreme Court is taking the case and arguments will be made in the coming months.

As you could imagine, there is a lot of gray area in what is a campaign expense and what is a political/election expense.

  6. Sorry… first line should say:

“Cynthia, no, you technically cannot use campaign account funds to pay PERSONAL (i.e. private use) expenses.”

  7. Nefarious, you yourself are a grey area.

    Human, Reptile, Mollusk hybrid.

  8. Thanks, MsTrumpion – helpful to the discussion, as always.
