Republican State Rep. Uses Bully Pulpit to Expose Democrat’s Bill to Allow Inmates to Vote

From The Center Square:

Legislator pushes bill to allow inmates to vote from prison

(The Center Square) – A state Representative says his bill to allow convicted felons behind bars to vote absentee in elections will pass the House. A state Senator doesn’t see it happening.

State Rep. LaShawn Ford, D-Chicago, said his amendment to House Bill 828 would make Illinois the third state in the nation to allow convicted felons behind bars to vote in elections.

That includes convicted murderers, Ford said.

“It means that anyone that’s incarcerated in one of our prisons in our state will have the ability to cast their ballot,” Ford told WMAY.

If the measure becomes law, the prisoner would cast an absentee ballot for the jurisdiction of their home address.

“Our goal is to not make people worse when they go into our prisons, it is to make them better and return them back as better citizens, and this is one step towards that,” Ford said.

State Sen. Terri Bryant, R-Murphysboro, has a background in corrections

She said giving prison inmates the ability to vote is a terrible idea.

And, not just for giving a right to people whose rights are taken away for criminal convictions.

She said it has the potential for a gang chief to influence other inmates.

“Not influence them in the way where we do commercials or you do mailers, but someone who basically says you’re going to vote this way or I’m going to beat you,” Bryant said.

“Very, very dangerous.”

Ford said he has the votes to get it out of the House.

Bryant doubts that, especially if the public is aware of the bill.

“People ask me all the time, ‘you’re in a super-duper minority, what are you going to do about anything,’ and I tell them ‘we expose,’” Bryant said.

“That’s all I can do right now is expose all of this stuff that individuals are trying to do.

“This should be another one that we should be making sure that our folks at home know how bad an idea this is.”

The measure is in the Rules Committee, but could be pushed out to a substantive committee during the remaining days of the veto session.

  1. Just another example of hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands of reckless stupid ideas from Democrats over the years.

  2. State Senator Terri Bryant is not a state representative.

Lashawn K(enyatta) Ford is an Austin Voice columnist. He is usually covered by the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Crusader too. 🙃

    Illinois House – 73 D – 45 R
    Illinois Senate – 40 D – 19 R

  3. No islands off Africa’s coast were ever settled by the Negros. Some of these islands are clearly visible from Africa; but the Negros never even developed the capability of building boats and sailing across a few miles of water to reach them.

    They weren’t even fishing.

It’s terrible to see tribes of Negros like balls and chains around the necks of White societies. And doubly terrible to see these cretinous White societies taking the knee before them.

Behind the scenes there is widespread cheating to create even the pathetic clown world we see today.

It’s pathetic to see Whites deny nature in front of them and we aren’t doing Blacks any favors by lying about reality. White students that naturally question authority are suppressed less they become one of the Bad Whites. So the schools basically favor the docile Whites that don’t ask any questions. Well that doesn’t bode well for society if college is where our political leaders are formed.

I’ve also seen what happens when Black students are “passed along” and then end up in junior college without knowing that they are well behind the minimum. At some point the mask has to come off and they end up devastated to learn that their Good White liberal teachers in high school were cheating them. Professors are put into a position of either keep cheating for them or treat them equally. Not much a math prof can do in an intro class that is tab graded.

    Why should these animals vote?

  4. Haven’t they forefeited their right to vote?

Wow, this state gets sicker and sicker.

Who says white prisoners won’t be threatened or coerced to vote the way the black majority of felons dictate?

  5. What a joke this guy is – State Rep. LaShawn Ford (D).

Maybe LaShawn should focus on cleaning up the voter roles before getting on his soapbox and screaming criminals should be allowed to vote. I bet they are voting already as it is.

He graduated Loyola Chicago in 95 and didn’t have a job until 07 when he became a Rep for the state of IL.

What did he do for 12 years to earn income before becoming a useless IL hack?

Did he suck up to Soros?

    Betting odds say yes.

    Ask Kim Foxx.

  6. As hundreds of Chicago police are being put on “no-pay leave” over their refusal to submit their personal Covid vaccination status with the city, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot appears to have fewer and fewer allies as she desperately tries to fill the gap of officer shortages due to the vax order.

Area county sheriffs are refusing to send additional manpower that’s she requesting to urgently cover the gaps, telling her that’s it’s a problem of the mayor’s own making.

  7. How long before that rabble rouser from Georgia, Stacey Abrams, and the mostly left wing Democrat commie pravda media and fourth estate start claiming “voter suppression of jail inmates convicted of murder, rape, burglary, violence, theft, etc?
