Former County Board Member & Algonquin Township Supervisor Bob Vorisek, R.I.P.

A former fixture in Algonquin Township politics and government, Bob Vorisek, has died.

The obituary below tells of his long service on the McHenry County Board and four years as Algonquin Supervisor.

I met him when he took over as a Fox River Grove Republican Precinct Committeeman in the precinct on the south sides of the tracks, replacing Richard Mandall, who moved to Lake Forest.

Not in the obituary is how Vorisek was a leader in the fight againt corruption in Fox River Grove. That the Gove is more honest than it used to be can be attributed to his tenacity.

It also does not mention how he and I faced off with Bill Yocius in the 1992 Republican Primary Election.

Died: October 22, 2021 in Northbrook, IL

Robert B. Vorisek, age 93, passed away peacefully on October 22nd in his home in Northbrook.

Former McHenry County Board member Bob Vorisek (sitting) was talkied to current McHenery County Board member Marc Munaretto at this 2010 event.

The son of Joseph and Emily (Bauml) Vorisek, Robert was born 19 June 1928 in Fox River Grove. A retired Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army (RA), he was blessed to have found love twice in his life with his wife Katherine (Kay) and dearest friend Kathy Michael. He is preceded in death by his wife Kay, married while stationed in Yamaguchi, Japan, and preceded in death by his son Joseph. He is survived by his brother James (Margaret) and his children Mary Ann Dilla (William), Katherine Vorisek (Donald Einbecker), Colonel (Ret.) Robert Vorisek (Kathryn) and grandchildren T.R. (Laine), William, Betsy (Timothy), Max, Emily, Mary Katherine, Thomas, and Jack, along with his great-grandsons Luke and James.

He attended Oak Glen, a one room schoolhouse in Fox River Grove.

Upon graduation from Crystal Lake High School in 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably for 22 years retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

He served several tours in Europe and Southeast Asia including an assignment to the 22nd Vietnamese Infantry Division.

Among his many military awards, he was decorated with the Bronze Star and Air Medal for his actions.

He was a graduate of the University of Maryland and served as a Vice President of the First National Bank of Chicago. [under Robert Abboud].

Later he served on the McHenry County Board for fifteen years and served for four years as the Algonquin Township Supervisor.

He was active in the PTA, Boy Scouts, Little League, and multiple veterans’ organizations.

During his many years of service, he was most proud of creating the Veterans Assistance Commission for McHenry County which helps veterans overcome challenges after serving in the military

In addition, his steadfast advocacy for responsible, sustained growth in the development of Foxmoor in Fox River Grove had a meaningful impact on the community.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021, from 4pm-8pm at Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, 403 Silver Lake Rd, Cary. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, Oct 30, 2021, at 10am at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 410 N. First St, Cary.

Burial will be private at Fort Sheridan in Highwood with full military honors. In lieu flowers please consider donating to Margaret’s Village in Chicago.

    He told me many moons ago he never passed the psychological tests administered for colonels and flag officers.

    They wanted spineless yes men.

    Guess that’s why we haven’t won any wars since WWII.
