Previously McHenry County Blog reported on the results and the roll call for the post of McHenry County Board Chairman.  Challenger Marc Munaretto was pitted against incumbent Ken Koehler.

The temperature outside was about 10 degrees.

Some of the relationships discussed within the board room were as frosty.

Randy Donley, who as in 2008 was inextricably linked with his candidate for Chairman, Marc Munaretto, was the first to speak.

He talked of how he had discussed term limits with each of the board members he had approached.

Some said a chairman should be limited to four years, others six years.

“No one told me eight years.”

Incumbent Ken Koehler was finishing up three two-year terms and seeking two more.

Randy Donley

Donley relayed a consensus among those with whom he spoke that is was “dangerous to allow anyone to build a strong coalition.”

“I’m afraid to vote for anyone else. I’m afraid of retribution,” others told him.

Donley then made his arguments for electing Munaretto, including that a “$250 million corporation deserves to be managed like one.”

“If we lost one board member, who would you least like it to be,” Donley asked, implying that most had indicated it was his candidate.

He also said he had asked members which member would they have managed their life savings. All asked but John Hammerand had picked Munaretto, Donley said.

Newly-elected member Donna Kurtz, who replaced Ken Koehler ally Lyn Orphal, then seconded Munaretto’s nomination.

Scott Breeden

“I think we all know what Ken is capable of and what he’s done in the past.”

That was pretty much all Koehler nominator Scott Breeden, from District 2 as is Koehler said. Democrat Paula Yensen seconded Koehler’s nomination.

Speaking to the question, Hammerand explained how Koehler and he “don’t always agree,” but that he allows him to speak.

“That’s is not the case with the other nominee,” the Wonder Lake resident said.

Hammerand revealed that he had been “threatened with a lawsuit” after posing some questions to Munaretto.

“I just don’t think he has the people (skills for the job),” Hammerand concluded.

Wheeler countered Hammerand’s characterization, praising “Marc’s willingness and openness in the Planning and Development (Committee). He and I were often on opposite sides of the discussion. After (thorough) discussion I thought we came (to agreement).

“Two years ago when I ran (for county board chairman), my main concern was the 2030 Plan. (It) came out (honorably).”

When allowed to pick seats, Barbara Wheeler decided to move to the back row.

Wheeler ended her comments by saying,

“If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu. Frankly, I’m tired of being on the menu.”

Democrat Yensen spoke in support of Republican Koehler.

At the end of the meeting during member comments, Munaretto offered his congratulations to Koehler, thanked his supporters and commented on his loss.

“It means your message didn’t get across.  The message is clear.  You don’t want me as Chairman of the Board.”

He said he knew his chances were “not that great.”

“For those of you who wanted to vote for me, but were afraid…(I didn’t get the rest).

“Rejection is not an easy (emotion),” he concluded, pointing out he was “here to represent my constituents not for you.”

Net Appears to be Closing on Prostitution Ring

November 16, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: 900 Pyott Road, Alqonquin Road, Crystal Lake, Hampshipre, Illinois State Police, Marigold Massage, McHenry County, Prostitute, Prostitution, Woodstock

First it was prostitution arrests in Hampshire and Crystal Lake.

The Illinois State Police were called in.  Turns out it was the Illinois State Police North Central Narcotics Task Force.

The name plate outside the Crystal Lake prostitution arrest office read "The Healing Touch." Note that "East West Healing Touch" is not the name outside the door, although that was the apparent corporate entity.

When I asked for details, I got very few about the illegal activities at East West Healing Touch, 900 Pyott Road in the Crystal Lake office.

Ongoing investigation was the refusal reason.

Both women arrested were oriental.

Perhaps Chinese.

If so, this story about how Chinese illegals get

  • to American without visas,
  • arrested at O’Hare and
  • detained at the McHenry County Jail

might be of interest.

The women, I was told by McHenry County’s chief jailer, have to work off the cost of the trip as prostitutes, while the men work in Chinese restaurants (not all such restaurants, of course).  I haven’t learned how they get out from behind the jail’s bars.

Sunday, I saw this article in the Northwest Herald about a prostitution arrest in McHenryAsian Massage Therapy, 323 N. Front St, the article, based on a police press release, said.

Last night I found out about a prostitution arrest in Algonquin in the Daily Herald. World Health Spa, 1445 W. Algonquin Road, a police official is quoted.

Also last night, the Northwest Herald noted another prostitution arrest, in Woodstock this time. Marigold Massage, 355 S. Eastwood Drive, the paper says.

When I asked for details about the Crystal Lake and Hampshire arrests, here’s the answer I got:

“The case is still being actively investigated and is an open investigation. The requested information is withheld per the freedom act’s provisions regarding

  • interference with pending or actually and reasonably contemplated law enforcement proceedings conducted by any law enforcement or correctional agency (5ILCS 140/7(1)(d)(i),
  • obstruct an ongoing criminal investigation (5ILCS 140/7(1)(d)(vii),
  • private information (5ILCS 140/7(1)(b), and
  • create a substantial likelihood that a person will be deprived of a fair trail or an impartial hearing (5ILCS 140/7(1)(d)(iii).”

“Pursuant to ISP media guidelines, the following information is provided:

“The Illinois State Police North Central Narcotics Task Force arrested Lan Rue He, female, age 31, 5801 Darlington Lake, Crystal Lake for Prostitution (11-14a Class A) on July 29, 2010 at 1:30 at 900 Pyott Road, Crystal Lake. Bond is $1,000 ($100 cash – 10%).”

Think this is going to end up going after those who invested in the enterprises?

Might the owners have some connection?

Site of Massage Parlor Arrest Found

August 02, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: 900 Pyott Road, Crystal Lake, Massage Parlor, Pyott Road

Sunday I went looking for the 900 Pyott Road address given in the Chicago Sun-Times article published last Friday, July 30th.

Google was no help.  Looked like an empty intersection.

A nearby place that appeared it might be the location was something of a gift shop which the owner said didn’t have anything like a massage parlor going “on the side.”

No East West Healing Touch.

With some expert guidance, I went looking again today.

And found the place.

900 Pyott Road, called Pyott Place.

It’s the old Northwest Herald office building. (Or maybe it was called the Crystal Lake Herald way back then.)

The location of the arrest is just south of Nick's Pizza.

Behind Nick’s Pizza on Pyott Road, just south of Virginia Street Road.

The list of tenants at 900 Pyott Place.

Nothing on the big sign listing tenants.
