Message of the Day – A Tattoo

A military tattoo seems to fit the occasion of Memorial Day. You can see a United States Navy one below:

"Join or Die" is the message of this tattoo.


Ben franklins “join or die” political cartoon he drew in the mid 1700′s to unite the colonies against the common threat as he called it.

Message of the Day – A Quote

I found the massage of the day in this gift shop and then couldn't find it on the internet. Fortunately a friend of McHenry County Blog rooted it out.

When we were at the Independence Hall gift shop, I saw this quote from Benjamin Franklin:

“When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.“

I was thinking of that quote when I wrote about the irresponsibility of Illinois Democrats stripping $50 million a year from state sales tax revenue with an annual Sales Tax Holiday for back to school clothes.

Although this was proposed by McHenry County Democrat Jack Franks, he didn’t send out a press release bragging about its getting signed.

How atypical of Franks not to try to gain the limelight.

Maybe he realizes what might be a good idea in good times is not now.
