Someone in my family turned 50 a while ago.

Fifty years old.

I took this photo as the candles were being blown out.

Message of the Day – Candles

June 19, 2008 By: Cal Skinner Category: Birthday, Birthday Candle, Cal Skinner

I’d never seen candles like these before the family celebration of Father’s Day and, oh yes, my birthday last weekend.

In his early 60′s my father used to delight in telling everyone he was “turning 26″ or “turning 46″ when asked how old he was.

Too late for me to follow his example.

I’m turning 99.

And my “C A L” candles are still burning brightly, although it does look as if someone is trying to blow them out.

Wishing Won’t Get Rid of Mayor Aaron Shepley s 75% Sales Tax Hike

March 28, 2008 By: Cal Skinner Category: 75% Sales Tax Hike, Aaron Shepley, Birthday Candle, Crystal Lake, Sales Tax

It’ll take more than blowing out birthday candles and making a wish to get rid of Mayor Aaron Shepley’s 75% sales tax hike.

And, you don’t like fire, remember.

I know you want to blow out the birthday candle and wish away Mayor Shepley’s 75% sales tax increase, but, based on two year’s experience, I don’t think that is the route for success.

Put on your thinking cap.

Keep thinking.

Come up with a creative solution.
