Last Minute McSweeney-Beaubien Mailings

November 03, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Dave McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, Mark Beaubien, Mike Madigan, Property Tax, Property Tax Bill, Real Estate Tax, Uncategorized

Five, count them.

Five mailings arrived in the David McSweeney (R-Barrington Hills) vs. Dee Beaubien (Ind.-Madigan) campaign on Thursday and Friday.

You can see them below:

Beaubien has a piece from Personal PAC, the pro-abortion organization.  It emphasizes something McSweeney told a now-defunct internet publication.

The address side of what is presumably the last mailing from Personal PAC.

A lie detector plays a role in this Personal PAC mailing.

Personal PAC again cites a quote about rape that David McSweeney make when he was running for Congress in 2006. McSweeney’s stand on abortion is that he is opposed to it except for rape, incest and to save the life of the mother.

The final panel of the Personal PAC mailing.

Let’s look at a Friday piece from McSweeney:

This black and white “Warning” piece from Dave McSweeney might stand out from the other four color pieces invading people’s mail boxes.  It stressing property taxes.

Details are supplied on the back of the “Warning” piece about how Dee Beaubien is linked to Democratic Party Chairman and House Speaker Mike Madigan.

Let’s take a look at another Beaubien end-of-week mailing.  This one asks to be able to carry on her husband Mark’s legacy.

Knitting yarn and needles are featured on the first page of the message.

“Together, we can carry on,” Dee Beaubien writes.

Dee Beaubien writes about her husband Mark’s legacy on this panel.

“I want to make a difference,” Dee Beaubien writes.

Back to one of McSweeney’s pieces.

Dave McSweeney puts his photo in a metal bending factory on the front of this last-minute post card that features endorsements.

Endorsements of David McSweeney from area newspapers are featured on the back of the mailing.

McSweeney has a third mailing delivered on Friday liking Beaubien to Mike Madigan and his plan to raise local school property taxes to pay for teacher pension shortfalls.

School property taxes that House Speaker and Democratic Party Chairman Mike Madigan wants to raise are featured on this mailing.

Independent Dee Beaubien is linked to Democrat Mike Madigan on this side of the mailing.

Early Voting in Two McHenry County Precincts

November 02, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Chuck Lutzow, Dave McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, Mike Madigan

A line of people waiting to vote early at the Crystal Lake City Hall.

Crystal Lake Estates comprises a precinct east of Pingree Road and west of Route 31.

It is a precinct in the state representative district in which Dave McSweeney is fighting a pitched battle with Dee Beaubien-Mike Madigan combine.

It has an active Republican Precinct Committeeman, Chuck Lutzow.

He is keeping track of those who are voting early.  The totals, in percentages, are found below:

  • 67% Republican
  • 10% Independent
  • 22% Democratic

That represents 69 voters.

Four years ago, 701 people voted, so about 10% of those expect to vote have done so.

In my precinct, Algonquin 7, 73 people have voted.  350 voted in the 2008 Presidential Election.

That’s 21% of those who voted four years ago.

I have not analyzed the partisan make-up.

Looking for Shaw Decremer & Andy Jones

November 01, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Andy Jones, Dave McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, Mike Madigan, Shaw Decremer

Is there more money coming from Mike Madigan’s Political Action Committees to Dee Beaubien’s campaign. Image compliments of Andy Gasser’s Blog.

No money has been reported flowing from Mike Madigan sources to Dee Beaubien since October 24th.

Maybe with the almost $430,000 deposited so far, there’s no need for additional assistance.

But if the two staffers Madigan has had assigned to the race, Shaw Decremer and Andy Jones, are still working for Beaubien, today is the day that their salaries should be reported to the State Board of Elections.

They are on a bi-monthly payroll so the end of month check should be showing up today or tomorrow.

Tribune Lets Readers Know of Madigan Involvement in State Rep. Races, including McSweeney-Beaubien

November 01, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Dave McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, Mike Madigan

The Chicago Tribune re-enforces Dave McSweeney’s campaign to tie Independent Dee Beaubien to Democrat Mike Madigan in a full page article today.

The Chicago Tribune ran a full page story on Democratic Party Chairman and House Speaker Mike Madigan’s support of mainly Democrats in the Chicago suburbs.

The exception to the “mainly Democrats,” of course is Dee Beaubien (Ind.-Madigan).

According to the story, Madigan has spent almost $430,000.

McSweeney Wins Favorable Headline in Sun-Times

October 28, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Dave McSweeney, Dee Beaubien

The Sun-Times article about the Dee Beaubien-Dave McSweeney race.

An articlewritten by Chicago Sun-Times Springfield correspondent about the race between Republican Dave McSweeney and Independent Dee Beaubien got the headline McSweeney would have asked for.

Instead of featuring abortion, as does pretty much every Sun-Times headline covering fellow conservative Congressman Joe Walsh, for McSweeney the headline questions Beaubien’s independence:

52nd District: McSweeney vs. Beaubien

Helped by Madigan, Beaubien must prove independence

A $1.5 million contest, McKinney reports, “the most expensive state House race in Illinois this election cycle.”

McKinney’s total from House Speaker and Illinois Democratic Party Chairman Mike Madigan Political Action Committees is $428,000.

Personal PAC, the pro-abortion group, has given $117,000.

Total for Beaubien, including$236,000 from her own money, is $925,000 so far.

McSweeney has brought in $668,000, $145,000 from himself and $160,000 from retired manufacturer Jack Roeser and his family. GOPAC has given $132,500.

Not until the bottom half of the article does McKinney mention the abortion issue charges being levied by Beaubien.

Second Misleading Social Security-Medicare Post Card Sent on Dee Beaubien’s Behalf Last Week from Mike Madigan

October 21, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Dave McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, Medicare, Mike Madigan, Social Security

When I posted the “David McSweeney will take away Social Security and Medicar”e post card from the Illinois Democratic Party on Dee Beaubien’s behalf, I didn’t know that two had hit the mailboxes last week.

I can’t be sure of the order, just that they both came the third week of October.

Including the two this week, I could a total of four negative Social Security mailings.

Here’s the other one. This makes four on the subject matter irrelevant to a state legislative race.

Talk about money to burn.

Same ol’, same ol’ on the back of the Mike Madigan Social Security hit piece aimed at David McSweeney. This is the address side.

Guide for people considering moving out of Illinois.

The back has a guy older than I with a cardboard sign saying, “Please Help.”

Maybe he’s asking people to help him move out of Illinois.

That, incidentally, was the conversation I had with a man after church today.

He had a book entitled something like “The 50 Best Small South Towns.”

He has found a couple of towns where four-bedroom homes run under $100,000.

And, where property taxes are $300-400 a year.

“Please Help,” says the old man’s sign, sent by Democratic Party Chairman Mike Madigan on behalf of Dee Beaubien’s campaign to defeat Republican Dave McSweeney.

Beaubien-Madigan Relationship Makes John Kass Column…Sort of

October 21, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Dave McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, John Kass, Mike Madigan

In Friday’s Chicago Tribune John Kass column, the Dee Beaubien (Ind.-Madigan) campaign was referenced.

It was in a tongue-in-check piece about fines that should be levied against politicians.

Consider the Chicken Tax: Aimed at former State Senator Barack Obama, who voted present many, many times. $100,000 for each offense.

Consider the Double Dipper Tax: For those politicians receiving two pensions from two governments. Fine would be $1 million.

Or the Boomerang Tax: “If they raise salaries by 2%, then their salaries shrink by 2%. And, if they increase income taxes by 67%, they lose two-thirds of their salaries. Kind of makes you think before you vote, right?”

And, then there’s the In-Kind Tax:

John Kass’ seeming reference to Mike Madigan’s massive contributions to “Independent” Dee Beaubien’s campaign against David McSweeney.

“Any campaign donation made by a politician to another politicians must be matched with an in-kind contribution to the state debt.

“So, if, say, House Speaker Michael Madigan, the boss, slips an ‘independent’ candidate $250,000 for a campaign, he must pay an equal amount into the general revenue stream, to deal with all the problems Madigan has ignored while he’s been busy raising case and bossing governors and mayors around.”

Actually, the last time I checked, direct contributions from Madigan’s Political Action Committees was $306,000.

$19,000 More for Beaubien from Madigan

October 21, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Dave McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, Mike Madigan

The Illinois Democratic Party has kicked in another $19,333.11 to Dee Beaubien (Ind.-Madigan).

They went for three mailings included in Beaubien’s October 19th report of the Illinois Board of Elections.

The mailing you see below, which arrive Saturday, is probably one of them.

It is the third mailing from Illinois Democrats that falsely implies that state legislators have something to do with Social Security, which is a Federal program.

This image of Grandma standing at the top of the stairs is a variation of the TV ad where Grandma is wheeled to the edge of a cliff and pushed off. Both refer to Social Security.

Here’s the back of the piece where David McSweeney is demonized:

McSweeney bad, Beaubien good is the theme of this side.

McSweeney Links Madigan to Beaubien Again

October 19, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Dave McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, Mike Madigan

Here’s another in a series of communications that will be aimed at 52nd District voters between now and the election.

It links Independent Dee Beaubien to Democratic Party Chairman and House Speaker Mike Madigan.

Here’s the address side:

On the address side of his latest m mailing, David McSweeney quotes big Dee Beaubien supporter Democratic Party House Speaker Mike Madigan’s calling for higher school property taxes to pay for teacher pensions outside of Chicago and asks, “Why is EXTREME LIBERAL Dee Beaubien running a negative and misleading campaign?”

On the back McSweeney explains what Democrat Madigan has in mind concerning shifting the Downstate Teachers Retirement System’s unfunded liability to local school districts.

I find the hand putting a Dee Beaubien letter back in a mailbox with the message “Return to Sender” amusing.

A stern-faced Mike Madigan’s visage peers out of the mailing. “She says she is a fiscal conservative, but she has accepted financial and campaign help from Madigan. This will make her beholden to him if she is elected,” the Northwest Herald is editorial endorsement is quoted.
