8th District Watch – Dirk Beveridge Sends Small Business Piece

January 29, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: 8th Congressional District, Andrew Berlin, David Nolan, Dirk Beveridge, Jack Rankin, Joe Musuraca, John Swan, Mail, Pepper Construction, Richard Pepper, Ron Bullock, Small Business

This is a mailing aimed at small businessmen, I think.

In 1996, I had a Crystal Lake mail list man put together a small business list. It was huge.

In Barrington Township, I’m remembering it was every fourth household.

In any event, you can see what went out below.  Click to enlarge any image.

A piece aimed at small businessmen. Note the quote from one of the more recognizable area small businessmen, Richard Pepper.

On the back is a quote from the 2009 Chairman of the Illinois Manufacturers Assocation, Ron Bullock, Chairman and Owne rof Bison Gear & Engineering Corp., plus endorsements from the Chicago Tribune, Daily Herald and Pioneer Press and a list of small businessmen.

If other candidates want to send me what they have mailed to voters, I’ll do my best to post it.

8th District Watch – Daily Herald Endorsed Dirk Beveridge

January 25, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: 8th Congressional District, Daily Herald, Dirk Beveridge, Fund Raising

Using his Sunday endorsement by the Daily Herald as a starting off point, 8th Congressional District Republican candidate Dirk Beveridge issued this press release:

Republican Dirk Beveridge Soars to the Top of the List
The 8th Congressional Candidate Scores a New Endorsement

(Barrington, Ill.) January 25, 2010…This weekend, 8th Congressional District Republican candidate Dirk Beveridge further differentiated himself as the leader.  On Sunday, Dirk Beveridge earned the endorsement of the Daily Herald and significantly over-achieved the Republican field in fundraising as revealed in federal Election Commission financial reporting.

“In this race, our steady and positive leadership pace continues to put us miles ahead of the pack,” said Dirk Beveridge, an Ironman Triathlete, Business owner and community leader.

“We are staying well above competing candidates who are mired down in mud-slinging and cat fights over integrity, fiscal irresponsibility and ‘carpetbagger’ issues.  Endorsements from news media, private sector champions, and community leaders have identified me as the candidate who is the most electable against Melissa Bean and her Dem Machine; and as the most effective leader to take on an entrenched congress.”

The most recent endorsement from the Daily Herald told readers about the race in the 8th District:

“Most impressive, we think, is business owner and philanthropist Dirk Beveridge of Barrington and we offer him our endorsement… A mainstream conservative, Beveridge reflects traditional Republican philosophy, as do virtually all the candidates in this primary race.

“But more than most, he has an ability to articulate those views persuasively with the ability to get people to work positively together to solve problems. It is important to elect representatives willing to work across the aisles to find solutions; we believe Beveridge has the temperament to do that without abdicating his values.”

With the February 2nd primary around the corner, his campaign is closing in on the $200,000 fundraising mark.  More compelling is Beveridge’s long list of supporters from across his district, reflecting every-day people, small business owners and families who are contributing for the first time to a political campaign.

Dirk Beveridge, a mainstream conservative Republican candidate for the 8th Congressional District, is endorsed by the Daily Herald, The Chicago Tribune and The Pioneer Press Papers.  Additional endorsements include a “Job Creators’ Coalition,” Cuba Township Republican Party, and a Schaumburg Township Republican Organization “preferred candidate.”

8th District Watch – Chicago Tribune Endorses Beveridge

January 19, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: 8th Congressional District, Chicago Tribune, Dirk Beveridge, Endorsement, Melissa Bean

The biggest news in Illinois has endorsed Dirk Beveridge for Congress in the 8th Congressional District, which Melissa Bean now represents. The Beveridge press release follows:

Republican Candidate for Illinois’ 8th Congressional Seat
Builds Electability Profile for Battle
Against Vulnerable Democrat Incumbent, Melissa Bean

Barrington, Ill. – Today, the Dirk Beveridge for Congress campaign earned the Chicago Tribune’s Editorial Board endorsement.

“We are ready to take on Melissa Bean and the ‘Democratic machine’ in November,” said Dirk Beveridge, Republican candidate for the 8th Congressional Seat.  “An endorsement of this stature will take us far in our pursuit of the congressional seat on behalf of hard-working, conservative Americans in our district.” In their endorsement, printed January 19th, the Chicago Tribune said:

“The best is Barrington business owner Dirk Beveridge.”

The Chicago Tribune stated “Congress needs more people who understand what it takes to put people to work and how government puts up roadblocks to employment.”  Beveridge’s proven leadership, integrity, and initiative are among the characteristics separating his candidacy.

The Chicago Tribune endorsement is on the heels of last week’s Pioneer Press Newspaper endorsement of Dirk Beveridge:

We find Beveridge to be the best at representing the views of all members of the party…Beveridge will do the best job of attracting voters that Republicans need to win in November.

Dirk was also endorsed last month by the Cuba Township Republican Committee and was chosen as a “preferred candidate” by the Schaumburg Township Republican Organization.

“Following intensive interviews and presentations from all Republican candidates, Dirk Beveridge rose to the top for his smart, commonsense stand on re-building the American dream,” announced Tom Gooch, Chairman, Cuba Township Republican Committee.  “In addition to his priority position on fiscal responsibility and limited government, Cuba Township republicans recognize Beveridge as a strong candidate with an organization in place to beat the Democrat incumbent, Melissa Bean.”

Dirk Beveridge is a common sense conservative dedicated to returning the U.S. economy to hard-working Americans, restoring the American Dream by cutting reckless spending and political earmarks, “Big Government” intrusion and restoring America to a culture of independence, not dependence on Government entitlements.

Just two weeks ago, the Beveridge Campaign announced endorsements from a wide variety of industry leaders and entrepreneurs: “Dirk understands business issues and job creation,” explains Ron Bullock, Chairman and Owner, Bison Gear & Engineering Corp. and 2009 Chair, Illinois Manufacturers Association.  “Our current Representative doesn’t, and we can change that. Dirk Beveridge will represent the 8th District with common-sense conservative values.”

“I am convinced that Dirk Beveridge can beat Melissa Bean and has what it takes to get the job done right in Washington,” explained Andrew Berlin, Chairman and CEO, Berlin Packaging and recipient, Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame and a “Job Creators Coalition endorser.”  “Dirk is a proven leader; he knows how to be effective and how to make a real difference.  I know when he is in Washington, he will act on his convictions and a strong moral compass to restore our American dream.”

Dirk Beveridge (48), of Barrington, is the owner of a small business who helps large national organizations grow and expand.  Dirk is known as a private sector champion and a valued community problem solver for his leadership of  ‘We Do Care,’ a six-year-old nonprofit organization that supports, thanks and celebrates veterans, soldiers and their families.

8th District Watch – Dirk Beveridge Endorsed by Pioneer Press

January 14, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: 8th Congressional District, Dirk Beveridge, Endorsement, Pioneer Press

The following was received this morning:

“We are breaking through the clutter and clearing a path to victory–in February AND in November!  This Republican primary is about the candidate who can be most effective in Washington restoring the conservative principles set forth by our Founding Fathers AND this is about the candidate who can first beat Melissa Bean.  The Pioneer Press, whose family of papers covers much of the 8th District communities, agrees–I am that candidate.”

In its endorsement, the editorial board points to this differentiation from the other Republican candidates:

“Part of the difference between he and other candidates is his ability and willingness to work with others. He has demonstrated that ability by helping found a 501(c)3 organization called We Do Care. That Barrington-based organization provides ways for citizens to say thank you to military veterans and personnel and their families for their service and sacrifice with a number of community activities.”

While Pioneer Press has pulled out of McHenry County, it does own the paper of record in Barrington and has other weekly publications in the 8th congressional district.

Illinois Family Institute Releases Candidate Rankings on 8th Congressional District

December 18, 2009 By: Cal Skinner Category: 8th Congressional District, Bill Scheurer, Christopher Geissler, Dirk Beveridge, Illinois Family Institute, Joe Walsh, John Dawson, Maria Rodriguez, Melissa Bean

The group that made robo-calls on behalf of the successful fight ban on video poker in unincorporated McHenry County to county board members has released its rankings.

IFI Voter Guide 2010 HeadingThey are not endorsements. They are lists of how people either responded to questionnaires or what the public record shows a candidate’s positions are.

Let’s look at the contested 8th District race for the Republican nomination for Congress.

First, let’s point out that Republican Gregory Jacobs and Green Party candidate Bill Scheurer did not return a questionnaire. It appears that Melissa Bean did not either, but answers have been pulled from her public record.

So, the following prospective challengers answered the IFI questionnaire:

  • Dirk Beveridge
  • John Dawson
  • Christopher Geissler
  • Maria Rodriguez
  • Joe Walsh

IFI Voter Guide Cong Questions 2010Disagreement among these Republicans was found on giving homosexual and transsexual individuals protected class status in the workplace on which Dawson disagreed with the opposition of the others and repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” which Geissler opposed, with the others in favor.

IFI Voter Guide 8th Cong Dist Answers 2010The first issue was

“Tax Increase/Cap and Trade — will tax energy consumption to combat “global warming.” (American Clean Energy and Security Act – 2009).”

All the Republican candidates providing answers opposed the measure. Incumbent Democrat Melissa Bean supported it.

The second issue involved

H.R 1913–”Hate Crimes” legislation — allows 2 identical crimes to be prosecuted differently if one victim is homosexual, a cross dresser or transsexual.”

All the Republican candidates answering opposed the measure. Incumbent Democrat Melissa Bean supported it.

Third was H.R.3017 & S.1584:

“Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2009 (ENDA) — gives homosexual and transsexual individuals protected class status in the workplace.”

Four of the six candidates replying opposed this concept. John Dawson joined Bean in supporting it, the voter guide reports.

Fourth on the questionnaire was

“REPEAL of Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) — the repeal of the only federal law that prevents homosexual “marriage” from becoming legal across the country (H.R.3567 – 2009)”

Again the five replying opposed repeal, while Bean’s position remains unknown to IFI.

The fifth question was

“Government Health Care — A government managed insurance plan that includes a “Public Option” similar to Medicare. (H.R.3200, H.R.3962 or U.S. Senator Max Baucus’ plan – 2009).”

Again, it was Republicans opposed, Bean in favor.

Sixth issue on the list was

“Defund A.C.O.R.N. Act (H.R.3571 – 2009).”

Everyone supported that.

Question number seven concerns the

“Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act of 2006 — requires abortionists to tell mothers about fetal development and the capacity of preborn children to feel pain. (H.R.6099 – 2006).”

This is supported by the five responding candidates in the GOP primary. Bean’s position is unknown.

Eighth on the list of issues was

“REPEAL of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” — would repeal the law that prohibits openly practicing homosexuals from serving in the military. (H.R.1283 – 2009).”

our of the five Republicans said, “No.” Christopher Geissler is reported opposing repeal. No position is reported for Bean.

“Requiring the 2010 census to include the question “Are you a citizen of the United States of America?” (Senate Amendment 2644 to H.R.2847 – 2009)”

is ninth on the IFI questionnaire.

Bean’s position is not known, but the five Re;publicans agreed.

Last on the list of ten questions is

“Transfer of prisoners from Guantanamo Bay to U.S. facilities. (H.R.2647, Sec. 1041 of Conference Report – 2009).”

Democrat Bean supports the move, while the Republican candidates replying were in opposition.
