Young Republicans Meeting Wednesday in Crystal Lake

August 16, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: Erica Poremba, McHenry County Young Republicans

An email from the McHenry County Young Republicans:

Time Again For Our Monthly Meeting!

Good morning:

We are meeting this Wednesday August 17th at the Cottage in Crystal Lake. We will be discussing a different meeting time, the upcoming leadership training, the annual YR BBQ, fundraiser plans, and the current campaigns from county board to President.

We would also like to remind everybody that we currently have an opening on the Executive Board for the Secretary position. If you are interested in this position contact Erica at ericadoolittle@sbcglobal.net.

Afraid of Public Speaking?

It’s a situation that makes us all nervous, just the mere mention of it… The only remedy for that fear or nervousness is: Practice, Practice, and Practice. The MCYR will be continuing the leadership training with a workshop on public speaking later this year. Tentative plans are in place for a workshop a couple of hours for a few Saturday mornings in September. The leadership training last year was very well received by all who attended! Please feel free to contact us for further details if you would be interested in attending this year. More information should be available following this month’s meeting.

We look forward to seeing you at our meeting this Wednesday!

March 11, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: Brian Hain, Erica Poremba, Jake Justen, McHenry County Young Republicans, Page for a Day, Pam Althoff

Here’s what Young Republicans in McHenry County are talking about today in their weekly newsletter:

Warm weather is on its way.  The MCYR is gearing up for the spring and summer events.  Below you will find a list of events and projects that we would love for you to be involved with.

On Thursday, please join us at the Cottage in Crystal Lake from 6-8pm for Happy Hour.  We can’t wait to see you.

Our Membership Co-Chairman Jake Justen is organizing the “Page for a Day” program!

We have been offered the opportunity to join Senator Pamela Althoff in Legislative Session in Springfield! You will be shown the ropes and the work that is done in Springfield.  Two people will be able to register per date, and the Senator and her staff promise a great visit! In addition, families can stay at the Capitol and attend the committee meetings to observe and can sit in the Gallery during Session.  The Page is the only one able to sit on the Senate Floor with the Senator. The only costs associated with this opportunity are the cost of travel, food and lodging.

The following is a dress code for all pages:

You will be issued an identification badge which must be worn at all times while functioning as a Senate Page.  This ID provides you access onto the Senate Floor.
Bring comfortable flat footwear.  Dress shoes, moderately heeled, no tennis shoes or sandals.

Ladies . . . dresses, skirts, or dress slacks are suggested.  Mini-skirts and skorts are restricted.

Gentlemen . . . dress shirt, necktie, and jacket are required (there are some jackets available on the Senate Floor).  Denim jeans are restricted.

Please respond to jakejusten@mchenryyoungrepublicans.com as soon as possible to reserve a place as space is limited. The following dates are available for visitors:

  • March 3, 4
  • March 16, 18
  • March 24
  • April 14
  • April 21, 22
  • April 28, 29

We congratulate Brian Hain on his new appointment to Treasurer.  We will miss Greg Austin – who is leaving us due to career obligations which take him to Virginia.  Having said this, we are looking for a new Fundraising Chairman.  Please contact Bryan Javor at bryanjavor@mchenryyoungrepublicans.com if you are interested in the position.

Current YR logo

We need your creative talent.  We are still looking for a new MCYR logo.  Please send your logos to webmaster@mchenryyoungrepublicans.com by April 12th.  We will vote on the logos at the April General Meeting.  The winner will win a $25.00 gift card to the restaurant of their choice in Crystal Lake.

In closing, Erica Poremba our Vice-Chairwoman thought of a great idea.  Each week we will be highlighting a member of the MCYR.  We are starting with the Chairman.  (Take a look oat McHenry County Blog over the weekend for the interview.)

Saturday’s Young Republican Rally

April 07, 2009 By: Cal Skinner Category: Bryan Javor, Erica Poremba, Jim Schlader, Joni Smith, Kay Stanish, McHenry County Young Republicans, Mike Tryon, Rally, Rob Lee, Salvatore Cucinella, Woodstock VFW

A bit late to report on the YR’s VFW rally last Saturday night, but there’s no competition from the local daily papers, so here’s what I have.

First we have Young Republican President Bryan Javor talking to Crystal Lake city council candidate Kay Stanish.

Next you see two Nunda Township candidates posing some YR’s in attendance.

From left to right, they are Nunda Township Trustee candidate Joni Smith, YR Kristin Culley, RY Vice Chair Erica Poremba, YR Membership Chair
Salvatore Cucinella and Nunda Township Trustee and candidate for re-election Jim Schlader.

Finally, here is a photo of State Representative and McHenry County Republican Part Chairman Mike Tryon talking with District 300 school board candidate Rob Lee.

Over 50 attended the rally.

McHenry County Young Republicans Reorganize

September 20, 2008 By: Cal Skinner Category: Brent Smith, Bryan Javor, Dan Regna, Erica Poremba, Garret Hill, Greg Austin, Jack Schaffer, McHenry County Young Republicans, Mike Tryon

I was in Andy’s Family Restaurant last Saturday morning and who should walk in but State Rep. Mike Tryon (R-Crystal Lake).

Tryon, whom I discovered was there in his role as McHenry County Republican Central Committee Chairman, was having breakfast with Crystal Lake’s Bryan Javor, its newly-elected president.

He’s about the same age as I was when I took over the reins when Jack Schaffer was off the Germany to serve in the Armed Forces.

For once, I didn’t have my camera, but Javor handed me his cell phone as if I would know how to use it.

He showed me what button to push and you seen the result.

Later he sent me this press release:

MCGOP Launches “Young Republicans”

Crystal Lake, IL… September 3rd 2008 at approximately 7:45 PM the McHenry County Republican Central Committee chartered The McHenry County Young Republicans (MCYR) and the 48 members it represents.

The MCYR are the 11th state recognized Young Republican organization. Prairie Grove native and Nunda 21 Precinct Committeemen Brent Smith and Dan Regna founded the organization with the assistance of Republican Party leaders.

Elections were held at the McHenry County Campaign Headquarters. Candidates elected were Bryan Javor as Chairman, Erica Poremba as Vice Chairman, Greg Austin as Treasurer and Garret Hill as Secretary.

The MCYR are looking for people between the ages of 18 and 40 to support McHenry County’s Republican leadership and values. For more information on membership please contact subscribe@mchenryyoungrepublicans.com or visit http://www.mchenryyoungrepublicans.com/

Later he emailed me this executive meeting notice:

The MCYR Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary will be in attendance.

The meeting will determine who is appointed as committee Chairmen.

The available committee positions are Bylaw Chairman, Social Chairman, Fundraising Chairman and Membership Chairman.

Positions will be determined in part based on responses received from the MCYR Chairman’s survey and emailed request for additional member involvement.

The Executive board members will also choose a day for the next member meeting.

This will again be based largely on responses to the attached survey. The survey was sent September 14th using internet polling technology thru Poll Daddy.
